Virgin, Oh dear!
Cant quite believe this but Virgin Yamaha have signed...wait for it... James Haydon to ride alongside Tommy Gun in 2007!
The crasher returns to the team he crashed most for on the R7! Well I hope they buy a shed load of bodywork is all I will say. Seriously the lad is a quick rider but has ALWAYS crashed through his whole career. But he is media savvy and very well backed so I guess that counts for a lot. I guess that Virgin are on of the teams promoting young talent, so maybe they have to have a journey man in their team aswell. WHat about Shakey or someone like Glen Richards. Would have been much better |

It does seem strange this. Haydon is continually employed by some pretty hefty teams!
He is a demon rider, but as he is usually either injured or crashing this counts for sod all. However, I hope he gets back on track for his and Virgin Yamaha's sake. |

A waste of a competitive ride. He crashes so often than it's hardly surprising he is injured so often. Considering that far more capable guys like Byrne and Ellison are rideless right now, it doesn't seem like a logical choice.

Alongside Tom Sykes Hazz, who is a very quick Supersport rider in the Whitham mould (ie from Yorkshire).
Think its make or break for Skakey really, as Bird will not tolerate failure, he raraely does! |

It seems this has become the British Superbike news thread. I came across the following news:
Trackstar-Racing team will enter the 2007 season with 2 MV-Agusta's. One of the riders will be Brian McCormack. Good news, another manufacturer. |

WW, Michael Rutter will be joining the MSS Discovery team, therefore switching to Kawasaki ZX-10R. He'll be riding on Dunlops (thats his favourite tyre isn't it???).
I didn't see this switch coming... |

Good to see some MVs out there, and Rutter securing a ride. He and Kawasaki are at their best in the wet, so race wins under special circumstances seem possible.

I dunno how he always does it, but Sean Emmet has secured a ride again. This time with the PR Branson team, on a Honda.

Re haydon, I have just started to watch the BSB 06 review, I knew Haydon had fallen off afew times but by Snetterton he has only managed to stay on and finish once !!!! At one meeting he fell off in both races and a restart !!!
Must be going for some kind of record |

Thing is with Emmett, he is godd with the media and no matter what else the lad can ride a bike damn quick!
Why put some kid on a bike like that wen you can perhaps get more media time and possibly a shockr esult with Emmet, he won a SS race last year remember and has always gone better in an underdog situation for me. |

He was riding in SS600 and even doing club meetings I think.
He was a total disaster on the R1, I went to the first round that year and bless him he was dead last, and for anyone thats been to a BSB round you know there are some guys out there that are pretty slow. I think it was too much too soon really and looks like teh R1 idea might be nailed from now on as the team seem to have set up a Supersport outfit, last years winner has sensibly decided to go for that route! Makes Tommys achievements all the more stunning really |

It was mentioned in Australian Motorcycle News that the 2006 R6 Cup winners team mate in the new Virgin Supersport team would be the 2005 R6 Cup winner, Billy McConnell.
Bit of a shame really, although he struggled on the whole (mainly fell too much) in 2006, he showed a few times he could mix it with the top runners. Doesn't help that the amount of Aussies in BSB has slipped as well, Coxhell has come home, and Glen Richards so far doesn't have a ride, leaving just Dean Thomas on the Hawk Kawasaki (one wonders why Richards ever left Hawk after 2005...) While i can see why they probably shouldn't have rides, i think it's great to see Emmett and Hayden still out there. Can we expect much from Karl Harris on the Hydrex Honda? |

Steve Plater is gonna ride in BSB with the AIM Yamaha team, who also gave him the winning bike for Macau.
He's also gonna do the North West 200 and the Isle of Man TT with AIM. In the TT he's probably going to compete in Superbike, Superstock and Supersport. Should be good! Unfortunately it's not broadcasted here... Plater's gonna be busy, cause he's gonna ride in the WC endurance with the ZX10 for Kawasaki France. |

Plater seems to have rescued his career abit of late, it was all looking abit sad mid-2005 when he was on the Sendo Kawasaki then the Hydrex Honda.
Hard to believe it was only 2001 when he was being touted as the next big thing, riding alongside Michael Rutter for Kawasaki UK in BSB. |

Interesting how Platers name should appear on a thread about Haydon, the two are pretty similar really, apart from the fact that Haydon has more experince and has done enough to impress at world level in the past.
Plater has proved himself to be a crasher aswell to be honest, yes he's quick but in reality has he done anything since the earlky Virgin Yamaha days? He even struggled on the best Vtwin ever made with the worls Honda a few years back, then buggered off back to Yamaha where he was utterly average. It annoys me that teams in the UK refuse to take risks with riders really, AIM have proved alopng with Hydrex to be woefully short of abaility to make a decent bike and cant really see the point in wobbling round in teneth places!! it dont get you any tv coverage! |
