Johnny Herbert to race in Indy 500 and Le Mans.

Johnny Herbert's plans to race in the CART series in 2001 may not come to fruition, but the Brit is close to fulfilling another one of his motorsport dreams - racing in the Indianapolis 500. The former Jaguar driver says if he can raise the necessary funds, he will be at Indianapolis when the speedway opens for practice and qualifying in May.

Herbert would not say which IRL team he is in talks with but added the deal could include several other oval races to be used as a tuneup for Indianapolis.

Herbert also confirmed he would be competing at the 24-Hours ofLe Mans, a race he won back in 1991 while driving for Mazda. Herbert says its likely he'll return with the Bentley team, adding everything has pretty much been agreed upon.

good luick to you johnny, it seems that the irl could be getting stronger if it get f1 rejects......cart used to get f1 rejects, but now gets drivers before they go to f1

It could be good. Let us see how a fairly good GP winner gets on in the Indy field. Form would suggest that Herbert wipes the floor with the others, however I do not think that he will win Indy 500 by miles.

Again at LM seeing Bentley with an experienced line up will only improve their chances.

Johnny Herbert has also signed a testing contract with Arrows GP as well.

Today it was also announced that Herbert will be Arrows' test driver. He is not going to be bored this year, it seems! Surely one of these forms of racing will snap him up to race regularly next year. Preferably not the IRL, but that's my preference and if he would like a drive there - he should go for it!

He will be a very busy little boy, not only test driver but should Bernoldi fail to perform Herbie may well be drafted into the F1 driving squad.

Hope that that will be after the Canadian GP as it is a long way from a Bentley car at Le Mans to an Arrows in Canada.
