He means DIY nose section. DIY stands for Do It Yourself, i.e. home built.

Mr Brown
i await your retraction rubbishing my claim that hu29 went to japan you should know better than to dispute facts on line especially after i mailed you directly over the facts and i also had list direct from Laurie Bray years ago with delivery dates
if you wanna argue over japanese race cars Im happy for hangbags at dawn winner buys the beers

the 2nd DRA lola T290 is a car built up from a show car later it raced with renta drivers it was sold in 78 whilty hu22 raced into 81 or 82 in Gp6 races with nick mason

I did not rubbish your claim - I asked you for your evidence. The T290 list I have from Lola doesn't mention Japan alongside HU29.

I never said I didn't trust Drifty. I just asked where he got his info.

It is a rule of this forum that you quote your sources.

We have an interesting discussion about ROC engined Lola in 74, 75 and 76.... on
http://www.autodiva.fr/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=206

It is in french, but i know that you are able to understand...

Wich are chassis number for car 43 in Le Mans 74, cars 27, 28, 29 in Le Mans 75...

And what about a Lola made in france by ROC...

Driftwood, Allenbrown, Fausto, thx to helping us !

in 73
Fred stadler had t290#5 ex Sweitlik 72 Bonnier team car
i think it was updated to 292 spec for 74 season
jacques henry had t290 # 14 was 72 Minel racing car nello chelli never raced but i believed went mountain racing -that now in UK

later they had t294/ 6 cars
looking at the car in white on the french site it doe snot seem tio be original roll hoop has only 1 diagonal brace and i cant see the rear V brace to gearbox off rollhoop but maybe it is the angle of the photo taken
i know he did build 1 car himself
in 1992 Pedrazza had a chevron b36 car for sale he thought might be a roc car maybe he built chevron not lola car himself

Thanks Driftwood

In Le Mans 73 we think that it is Henry car HU14 who ran with a non Roc engine
In Le Mans 74, we think that Stadler use HU05 under T292 spec (#43) end roc engine

In 75, there was 3 Roc engined Lola + the white wich was JRD engine
We think that HU05 run under #29
we think that HU14 was converted to Roc engine and ran under #27 or #28
and Stadler made a copy just because in want to enter the Coupe Simca Shell with a french made car so the false Lola is a Metric car wich is #27 or #28 (i think it is #27 with the aero body)

For the JRD car of Lemrle, we think it is another false car from Stadler ...

Do you know more ?

i dont know much about ROC except he used simca motors in some cars both Gp 6 and F2 plus he built race bikes for GP racing
later he had reynard LMP car before company went bankrupt and all parts etc where sold in 2002/3?
he had Lola T290-92 cars plus Chevron B36 cars 1 was sponsored by Toyota
lola t290 into 292 is easy as the car is really the same for 8 years
1 fit T292 rear tail section with wing different nose cone Later t296 car has longer tail with wing for LM track
2 change rear uprights to inboard brakes type change rear wheels fit inboard brakes to gearbox replace Girling AR calipres for AP 4 pot calipres all round

yes some cars were built in france (by ROC, ELKOUBI and maybe some others) we call them Lola metric (for obvious reasons) ... these cars ran at Le Mans and in hill climb... But it is difficult to know wich are real english lolas and wich are french lolas...

here is where we have some diversion of the original lola and a new monocoque being made ( maybe what you call metric?) however if say chassis 63 ( i pick number out of the sky!) has new chassis made by ROC or jean pierre smith in his garage the car is still lola t292/4 chassis 63

BUT if Jean pierre or ROC or Elkoubi make a new car from nothing then it is not a lola built car and will not have a chassis plate with a Lola sequence number
i cannot see anyone making a replica lola in 1978-82 to race at LM or mountain races when he can go and buy 1 of 20 cars near to him- i would suspect the metric car is a new chassis fitted to an original car
but please give any info on cars you suspect are "metric" cars

would you have the info from the mechanics mouth or reading french race magaizines?

first ; what do you think of the list ? Are you agree with it ?

second : what we call metric is the car built in france ( a copy) beacuse it was cheaper to made a copy instead of buying a car from the factory ! In the case of ROC, it was also beacuse they want to enter a car in the coupe simca shell wich was only for french cars ! it was in 73 74 !

but now if you own a copy, it is easy to put a lola chassis number on it !

A belated report from the Classic Endurance Racing result from the Silverstone Le Mans Series meeting (13 September).

Jacques Nicolet won in Lola T298 HU99 BMW 2.0. By the way third was Michel Quiniou in Lola T280 DFV 3.0, said to be chassis 4 by a mechanic.

do you have any photos of the cars at the event?

T280 hu4 is indeed the car of Quinou as sold at auction in 06 from the RB collection ex Ray Mallock thundersports car

Guy Edwards 296. I have a very nice picture of it in ultramar livery - will scan it and post it in here.
The chassis number is HU87 and I have checked with Gerald at Lola heritage and he confirms this is the case (as much as anyone can confirm these things!).

Oh and it will be out again next year in Orwell and/or CER in it's original livery.

Autosport 16.6.77 Guy E tested the ultramar Rizla at Silverstone. Will make it's debut at Jarama july 3rd when Ray Mallock will share the drive and will stay over for Estoril when Chris Craft will get to drive the car
A/s 7.7.77 "Mallock will be driving the new Ultra/Riz T296 at Ricard, Imola and saltzburg with additional sponsorship of Ofenbau Fritz. Craft will make its debut at Estoril next weekend. A nice picture (black and white but I don't think it will scan very well) with GE, RM and John Lepp get a mention.
A/s 14.7.77 estoril report - " In fourth place came the new lola 296 of Chris Craft winning the 2 litre class on is debut. practice was 1:43.95
A/s 28.7.77 Paul Ricard "Brambilla went off while Ray Mallock following closely in the ultramar Rizla T296 also had to spin to avoid the accident" "Mallock leading all the opening laps (in 2 litre class) holding a fine 3rd overall, Mallock slowing when gear linkage mounting came away". thereis a b&w pictureof the rear of Mallock but again I don't think it will scan well.

I hope all this helps or is of interest to some of you (I am sorry for the paraphrasing but my typing is not up to putting it in full.

Thanks
Delbert
