Stephane Ortelli with Oreca-Seat in WTCC

According Autosport-Atlas Stephane Ortelli will do 3 rounds of WTCC with a SEAT. The car is runned by Oreca. Source: http://www.autosport-atlas.com/news.aspx?id=46202&g=2

Have to say this is a big surprise. Ortelli is a great sportscar/GT driver and Oreca is one of the best teams.

Is this a test for 2006? Will there maybe an official SEAT France team in WTCC next season? Or is the French touring car championship switching from silhoutte to S2000 rules and will SEAT France enter some cars in that championship.

Certainly a good new, there were some rumours time ago. If i am correct Ortelli will drive Plato´s car.

Three rounds but which three?

Shouldn't new Leon be used at Oschersleben? So what happens to the current works Toledos... 2 to GR Asia, 1 to Oreca?

The Autosport mag reported this story too, I believe Ortelli will drive the car from Oschersleben, when the new Leon makes it debut. The article did mention it may lead to a full SEAT France team in 2006.

Only Gené will drive the new Leon at Oschersleben, Jaime Puig (SEAT Sport team manager) confirmed it at Spa.

Nice to see a top driver and team crossing towards the series. If it goes well it will presumably mean a full-time effort from Oreca, although maybe not with Ortelli unless he personally shines relative to the other SEAT guys. I see this as similar to Yamaha running a one-off for Gimbert in France last year, but returning with a 4-bike squad in which he's on paper the weakest rider.

Of course, as we heard on TTT...Seat UK are trying to sort out a 4th car in the BTCC...as long as the Leon works out okay, should be plenty spare.

Blummin' 'eck. A great driver, how will he adapt? It'll be good to see him out there.

He says it'll be quite a challenge as he hasn't raced a FWD car in 11-years.

Ah, a Peugeot in the French championship. So I've found the answer to my first question so now I have a second one: Was he any good?

Fast, but 1994 French championship was certainly very good and competitive and not easy for a beginner. He finished in overall top-ten anyway.

Well, Helary's already contesting the French Supertourisme Championship, so he's a touring car driver by trade these days, occasional Le Mans forays notwithstanding.
