Dyson to Switch to LMP2 with Porsches???

Heard on the Speed Report last night that Robin Miller is reporting that Dyson will field two Porsche Spyder RS Evos in LMP2 next season.

Oui - et Anglais aussi...

LMP2 should shape up to be quite competitive.

Penske vs Dyson; Next season it will be clear at which level Dyson operates.

I think Lola isn't happy with this news.

Comments from their camp would lead one to believe that it is the Lola that they far prefer so far.

They also bought at least one Lola - that's what Fernandez is running.

They are running 2 Courages and only 1 Lola and they plan to further develop the LC75 chassis (responsability of Highcroft).

Perhaps the decision on the preferred chassis will only be made at the end of 2007.

Ummm NO. There will be NO preferred chassis at the end of 07'. They are supposed to build their own. This is about learning. The one word so far that I've heard from their camp describing the Courage's has been... "garbage".

IIRC they chose the Lola for Fernandez to have a stable, proven chassis to be able to focus more on engine development. The Courage is going to be for testing chassis development, as has been mentioned. It doesn't seem to me that they have a preferred chassis - only interim solutions ahead of an upcoming factory chassis.

EDIT: as Fogelhund more eloquently articulated while I was typing

I did not know it was Acura interest to build an own chassis. I thought they wanted to build a customer engine and not so much a total package like Porsche did.

My mistake. Sorry for the confusion.

An additional reason I've heard regarding the Courage was that, and I'll quote, not that it will make much more sense, "it came apart easier". The real reasons certainly seem to be more in line with having a stable well proven chassis behind the engine developments (Lola) with a much less proven chassis provided by a manufacturer who certainly wouldn't say no to some additional development.

Getting back on topic, what happens to the Dyson Lolas?

I'm sure nobody thinks it's funny to always be beaten by the works Audis, but it'd be a shame to lose those cars.

Just concerning Acura : Their president told that the choice was made in order to have a known package (Lola) and a development package (Courage) which will be changed in a real Acura...
People who attended the tests say that both chassis are fast and that some more fine tuning is needed to have the ideal integration.

wow!

i sure as hell didnt see this one coming very surprising news, so who is left in LMP1 now then?

LMP1

audi sports north america 2x audi R10
autocon motorsport 1x MG lola EX257
possibly courage cosworth 2x

and for sebring, petit and laguna

1x zytek 06S
1x creation CA06H

whilst LMP2 looks very good for next year

LMP2

penske porsche RS spyder 2x
dyson porsche RS spyder 2x
highcroft courage LC75 mugen 1x
fernandez racing lola B05/40 mugen 1x
andretti green racing courage LC75 1x
intersport racing lola B05/40 AER 1x although after the team owner's theft charge, the operation for intersport looks to maybe be off for next year.

well anyways does this maybe mean at long last we might see dyson or penske come to lemans?

have either of them announced any kind of plan to come to lemans penske have the invite but will they accept?

NO. Roger Penske stated that under no circumstances will his team compeate in the LM24 unless Porsche pays the whole bill. ( $2.5 million would be my guess for the one race )

Rob Dyson said in the past that they would love to compete in the LM24 but it was not in His companies ( sponsors) best interests and bank balance.

If Porsche put up $5 million I would imagne both teams will be there.

It appears as though one of these cars will be full season for ALMS... nothing definitive yet. Autocon is supposed to have a second car.

Neither team ownership, nor funding come from Jon.

Porsche Afraid?

Is Porsche afraid that the RS Spyder won't last 24 hours?
