And later Damon's son Josh used the same design during his brief racing career

James Hunt used Hill's design as an inspiration for his. Basically a black helmet with his own colours, in Hunt's case the Wellington colours

Other designs inspired by others that were not family related, Alboreto's tribute to Peterson has been mentioned. Alesi's was a tribute to de Angelis. I did read that Herbert's was actually based on Depailler's. Also have mentioned McCarthy's tribute to Gilles. Diniz's was inspired by Carlos Pace's. Ant Davidson's was based on Eddie Cheever's

A couple of drivers used Senna's helmet as inspiration. Irvine originally started with one identical to Senna's before painting it in his own colours. Hamilton's original yellow helmet was due to his hero Senna. And he also wore one in Senna's colours at the 2011 Brazilian GP

Hmm, I recall an interview ages ago where he said the yellow was so he stood out in karts so his father could identify him easily.

Yes it was so his Dad could spot him easier in karts and decided on yellow due to his hero Senna

I do remember Alguersuari having Ciao Henry on his helmet in his first GP in Hungary 2009, as a tribute to Henry Surtees

Daniel Ricciardo has a special pre-season testing helmet paying tribute to Kobe Bryant.

The purple helmet features the term ‘Mamba Mentality’ on the back, a reference to Bryant’s 'Black Mamba' nickname.

It also features KB24 on one side, a reference to Bryant’s playing number with the Lakers, and KB8 on the other.

That response has nothing to do with Alonso at all. If the top teams thought Alonso to be worth the investment he would be driving in F1, what is hard to understand about that? What makes him so entitled to demand that he won't return unless it is in a winning car.

What i've said stands. My point being that they all had quite demanding personalities that created drama, could placed a strain on their teams and sometimes divided them too. But the fact that they were so good always meant that they could court top drives and the top teams were always interested regardless of any baggage they might bring.

It shouldn't be any different for Alonso, or Hamilton for that matter.

Think it says a lot about the way F1 has gone! Teams feel that an accepted top line driver with such a mentality isn't first choice anymore. Maybe because the driver can't make such a difference as they could in previous eras.

Sorry if i'm taking this away from the main topic guys..

If he was worth the investment he would be in a team, that he is not in a team says it all. Pretty simple really but most don't see it that way except for the ones doing the hiring and they definitely do.

If he's not worth the investment, that would be down to Alonso pursuing his dream of the Triple Crown. There are now so many races on the F1 calendar, I would think it is impossible to race in another series as well, what with the commitment that is required to participate in 21 GPs. Where would a driver find the time? A team wouldn't want a driver to skip races.

That is what a team or sponsor does when it is all said and done, they make an investment in a driver that is expected to make a dividend, nothing more and nothing less. It's a cold hard fact but when looked at in that sense, Alonso does not stack up or he would not be standing on the sidelines.
