2018 Americas Rallycross Championship (ARX)

Given that the ARX Facebook page has finally sprung into life and we have some details, I thought I would start a separate thread for this Championship. Obviously we know it's a four round Championship:

R1 - 26/27 May - Silverstone, UK (World RX R4)
R2 - ? July - CoTA, US
R3 - 4/5 August - Trois-Rivieres, Canada (World RX R7)
R4 - 29/30 September - CoTA, US (World RX R10)

Entries for the first round have been revealed, with 10 drivers on the list:

Tanner Foust - Volkswagen Beetle (VARX)
Scott Speed - Volkswagen Beetle (VARX)
Chris Atkinson - Subaru STI (Vermont)
Patrik Sandell - Subaru STI (Vermont)
David Higgins - Subaru STI (Vermont)
Timo Scheider - Seat Ibiza (Munnich Motorsport)
Rene Munnich - Seat Ibiza (Munnich Motorsport)
Liam Doran - Citroen DS3 (LD Motorsport)
Andy Scott - Peugeot 208 (Albatec)
Philippe Maloigne - ? (Maybe one of the older Albatec 208's?)

Glad they have managed to fill the grid out, as seeing just four or five cars going round would look a bit silly. I wonder if any of the additional entries have any intention of running the whole Championship? (Liam perhaps?)

According to the ARX Facebook page the race coverage will be broadcast free on Facebook.

He said he'd do the French championship and some WRX rounds with the team and car

Ken Block will join the series in round two at COTA driving a Ford Focus RS RX, alongside former GRC racer Steve Arpin.

I am placing a bet now that even with 10 cars Liam cannot make the final

So they are competing separately? Like ERX and WRX?

If the car is reliable (and the driver is consistent) then I think Liam could be a strong challenger.

Yeah, separate races. According to a comment on Facebook (from Neil Cole, so I am assuming it's accurate) the ARX won't feature at all in the World RX broadcast.

And those ifs are generally where he comes unstuck with too many break downs or moments of hot headed stupidity.

Maybe the ban and fatherhood has calmed him down a bit, we shall see??

The Austin race will feature a concert by Ludacris, also known as Tej in the Fast and Furious franchise.

Gonna be interesting to compare the laptimes of the WRX and ARX, always wanted to know the difference between the GRC and WRX cars so this is pretty much the closest we will ever get

Well I take it back, he got third. Beetles were in a different league though.

They have been in a league for there own in the GRC for the past 3 years so it's not surprising

Comparing the times of the Beetles with the World cars gives a good indication just how quick they are. It's no wonder the rest of the GRC field have been struggling to keep up.

I don't think they are quite the same yet, but they seem to be heading in that direction. I understand that the Beetles were running with an extra 25 kilos of ballast at Silverstone (haven't seen that confirmed anywhere official yet though).

There was a similar weight penalty (30 kilos) in the World regulations a few years ago when they were trying to close all the loopholes, so the additional weight would make sense.

Looks like an eight car grid for Canada?

2 VARX Beetles (Speed/Foust)
3 SRT WRX STI (Sandell/Atkinson/Villeneuve)
2 Loenbro/Hoonigan Focus RS RX (Arpin/Block)
1 MINI (Bennett)

I reckon 2 Beetles, 2 STI (neither being Villeneuve!) and 2 Focus for the final. The Focus is the only car I can see having the pace to challenge the Beetles.

You can add Münnich to the list in a Ford Fiesta.

Clean sweep for Scott Speed. I was hoping that Block might prove more of a threat as he looked like he might have the pace to match Speed in the earlier races.

Still a possibility that Foust can take the title, but Scott will need to have some bad luck.

I just watched the Austin races. They weren't too interesting, and were filmed with just 3 cameras or so.

It's very odd to see Block's car with no Monster sponsorship.

Wasn't sure of the most appropriate place to put this, so I thought I'd post it in this thread.

https://youtu.be/Tzg-80Ioks8

Latest Hoonigan video which features a walk around of the Focus RS RX. This is the most under bonnet footage I have seen of any "current" Supercar and there are a few interesting snippets in the clip.
