Seven C#7 AFL Grand Final.........V8 Grand Finale
All day in mainstream media there were reports about 7 pumping the AFL about changing the Grand Final fixture ( whilst they are broadcasting) from Saturday afternoon to Sunday evening, like the NRL have done.
Which brings me to the query of whether they would do the same to AVESCO over The Grand Finale, or, in fact races in general. My opinion is, yes, they will probably dictate to AVESCO when events will occur. Anyone else? |

no big deal i would have thought, as long as they telecast live, im all for it. i wouldnt mind being at a round under lights as long as it is underlights, but i dont think there are too many tracks
maybe we go back to calder (yeah right) |

Sunday nights would be good for the Finale I would think. Sounds like that period is somewhat a high rating timespot.

broadcasters have to much say in sports, they should work around the sport not the other way round.

Forget it pal. Whilst the current AFL admin is in place, they won't be moving the game from Saturday Afternoon. Besides, I don't think we'll see night racing anyway for a while.

V8 Supercars will get lots of second prizes in my opinion. The AFL will not bow to Tony Cochrane.

There is no doubt the calendar will change next year so more rounds will be held out of AFL season(Championship to start late February with 3 rounds instead of present 1 before AFL season) however Saturday night races might be an option at the few tracks that are relatively easy to lighte.g. Queensland Raceway.

Of course events will be dictated by TV. They were when Channel 7 had the rights previously, they are dictrated currently by Channel 10 (look at Sandown), they will be next year.
The series is nothign without TV coverage, so you can hardly tell them what to do. |

Oran Park have run many successful day/night events. Theres no need for the track to have installed lighting. Back when they ran the trucks under lights they used high powered portable lighting and it worked fine (they skimp on the lighting at the NSWRRC night meetings but I prefer that actually - not good for TV however).
