Meat GT1 Round 9 - Autódromo José Carlos Pace - 26th/28th November

Introduction

The penultimate round of the first FIA GT1 World Championship is apon us! We now head to São Paulo, Brazil for the first of two South American races, where Vitaphone Racing drivers Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini have the chance of winning the drivers championship. Unless the Thomas Mutsch and his Ford GT can beat them, with the help of Richard Westbrook. Vitaphone also have the opportunity of winning the teams championship, provided Reiter do not pull a fast one on them! Autódromo José Carlos Pace, also know as Interlagos has been well known for its long straights and hectic action. With the GT1's here, things could get insane. With lap times just over one minute, Interlagos could be the fastest paced race this year.

As previous GT1 races have shown, expect the unexpected!

I'm surprised we don't have a sudden influx of Brazilian drivers who know the circuit, only one new driver on the entry and he's just some Dane!

I think GT1 Live is only broadcasting the real Qualifying and both races.

We will see tomorrow...

I'm suprised about the speed of all the brazilian drivers (Negrao, Bernoldi, Serra, Longo, Dahruj and Jimenez). Is track knowledge/experience so important in Interlagos?

1:33? That sounds about right for a dry GT1 time around there, considering a F1 car laps the track in 1:14 at race pace.

I dont think so, because on the official GT1 pictures on their website, you can see that it was dry this morning when they drove their laptimes (33.0).

Yes, but that was back when GT1 cars actually used to be fast

Mad Croc Corvette on top at pre-qualifying. Would be nice to get at least one championship race win this year.

Should make for some good racing at Interlagos, I love this track, looking forward to see how the races pan out.

The drivers have commented on how green and low grip the track was yesterday, they expect it to improve through today and tomorrow.

This track and the next one, San Luis are some of the best. I personally like San Luis because of it's location and scenery.

wow! Vitaphone #1 car by Bartels/Bertolini doesn't fit well here at Interlagos, can't believe, or maybe they are in a good situation in the series...

Or local drivers Bernoldi/Negrao are doing their best on track...

Ah beautiful cars on a beautiful track.

It would be great if the ALMS went to South America for one or two races as well.

Bouchut's Lambo thrown out... because Christophe did THREE (!) laps in qualifying after the checkered flag flew. And clipped the white line on pit entry when coming in after being shown red flags for a lap or so. So only 22 cars starting.
