PC games on XP

I just ordered a new computer from HP, with a great video card, sound card, ram, ect. It has Windows XP on it, and I'm wondering if my games like Grand Prix Legends, GP3, Colin McRae Rally 2 will work on it. Thanks.

GP3 works on XP. GP3 2000 doesn't.

Colin McRae the original game works on it - should assume that no. 2 would.

Don't know about GP Legends - haven't got it. (sacrilege!)

That's good. I do recall some people on the board talking about GPL on XP. But as for CMR2 and GP3 thats good news.

I don't have CMR2 yet, i ordered it from Codemasters three weeks ago and still haven't gotten it yet! Their website says its backordered but I don't understand that it would take three weeks to get another batch of them!

It does seem that some people have trouble with GPL on XP, but I run XP Pro and have no problems at all.

I have XP, and occassionally, GPL does go a bit wonky on me, but i think that has more to do with my editing than XP

One thing to bear in mind is that GPL was (obviously) not designed to work on XP. Win98 is the perfect platform for GPL and you can create a Win98 partition just to run GPL on - if you're so minded. The only problem I had with XP was when I first installed GPL, somehow I set it to run in Win98 compatibility mode. Don't make that mistake - it runs at an incorrect speed and then the speedfix doesn't work properly.

From HP? You mean Hewlett-Packard? Are you sure? I was the greatest HP fan ever, but since the HP-Compaq merger, to say that I'm dissapointed is an euphemism. I'm completely - off. They addopted all Compaq cheap models (no different from no-names, other than being pricey) and dumped the fine models they used to manufacture a couple of years ago. Shame on them.

Well, I acquired an HP printer (reasonable spec) about 6 months ago after my Samsung (yes, Samsung!) printer died a horrible death. As far as I'm concerned, its excellent.

Don't know anything about their computers though.....

Yeah, I've heard mixed reviews about HPs. While one of uncles has or had one and it looked like garbage, I trust that it should be pretty good. Besides, God forbid if anything breaks or fails on the machine I have some friends who do "under the table" repairs and tinker with building computers, so i'm good in that department. But most importantly the price was right for what I wanted ($734) and Dell and Gateway were charging something like 1200-1300. I simply can't afford that kind of price, so HP had the deal.

By the way, if anybody cares, CMR2 has finally shipped after weeks of waiting. Hopefully it will be good~!

I must confess, I have no great interest in the after-sales stuff, as I am reasonably useful in sorting out things myself and I also have a friendly expert who helps me out when my knowledge and skills let me down.

Yeah, I'm with you but at the same time if the part is going to improve the performance of the machine and if the price is right I'll take it, hands down. (Not to say I spend all my money on computers...)

Well, the machine has come and I am pleased to announce that CMR2 does work on my computer. When you have a brand new computer and an awesome steering wheel there's nothing better in the gaming world!
