Tasman to race VE at Symmons Plains??
I read on another website the Tasman Motorsport will debut the VE at the next round at Symmons Plains.
I thought teams weren't allowed to debut an all-new car in the middle of the season. |

Despite only unveiling the machine a couple of weeks ago, Tasman Motorsport will have the honour of debuting the VE evolution of the Holden Commodore in the next round of the Australian V8 Supercar Championship at Symmons Plains. With testing limited, Holden have taken the opportunity to give the new-look machine a competitive debut before its full introduction to the works backed teams in the series next season, offering Jason Richards the chance to put the car through its paces and test it alongside the VZ Commodore. Ultimately the car is little different to what is raced now thanks to the strict parity rules that keeps the competition between Holden and rivals Ford exceptionally close. Nonetheless, early tests by some of Holden's leading drivers have produced gushing reviews and claims that it will be the fastest machine next season. Richards has been given the chance to try the more aggressive looking VE after various accidents had damaged his current car. That vehicle will now be in the hands of team-mate Andrew Jones, who will run developments for the VE on the current car in preparation for 2007. "My car has had more hits than Elvis of late and, while it's repaired and fine for Andrew to now drive, there's some changes in the new chassis that we are wanting to try in preparation for the VE model next year," said Richards. "I'm keen to get my hands on it and see how it goes at Symmons Plains. It's going to be a challenging weekend, as it's a new car that hasn't been run before, but we'll soon find out what the new car can offer us." |

So,
Are they running a full VE or a new VZ shell with updated VE components? Interesting...that Richards car is not good enough for him to drive, but ok for Jones. Sounds like that second seat isn't the "chosen one". |

I thought the car would have had to be OK'd by the TEGA board and Ford after side by side aero testing before it could race?

Hmm. Only last week this news went out:
http://www.v8supercar.com.au/news/la...M&gid=18528875 Is it possible someone has crossed wires? I hope not, would be cool to see it. edit: btw I'm pretty sure that the rules are you can switch models mid-season, but you can't switch *back*, thats all. |

Thats what the HMS news says too. I think crash.net thought they had a hot potato and got a bit imaginative.

The press release Here claims the new shell to be a VZ
The existing 'tits up' #3 car shall go to Mr Jones for the balance of the season, while Mr Richards shall debut a new #3 with the new Paris Acott-built shell.... |

Given the comments by Jason Richards about his heavily pranged car, and assuming it's better than the #23 machine, it looks like Greg Murphy Racing will be getting a bargain when they take them over at the end of the year. Guess they're not at the $400k end of the scale.........but let's not go there.

They should check their facts. The VE hasn't even been approved to race yet.

So what exactly do they mean- Will Tasman be running a VZ with VE inner components, or what?

It will be a VZ, simple as that. Maybe they have some new parts they want to try out, but they would only be a development part and would have to be currently allowed.

Has the VE being fully homlegated, and if so it means again another rule for Holden and STUFF the rest.
