Oh yes, I agree.
However, to change people's minds you need : A) A good package of races B) A good package of marketing & support C) Backing for the series to make people WANT to compete in it. (A) should be known in two to three weeks. (B) should follow on before the end of October (C) likewise 2006 and 2007 had neither A, B, or C, yet the series picked itself up from the end of 2006 where there wasn't a lot of hope, early 2007 wasn't brilliant, and now there is great optimism from all concerned - organisers, teams, circuit owners, and fans. One thing I will say - a reason that many people left the series was to do with the radial tyres that we ran on this year (and a few years previously). They have poor grip levels, and when they let go, they let go quickly and big time. To my mind, they are an accident waiting to happen - no, in fact I had mine on Saturday betweem Turn 2 & 3 when the back end stepped out at over 150mph. There's no coming back. And bang - backwards into the wall! Thankfully, the camaraderie in the championship showed through, and a dozen people from five different teams set on the car and got it out for the race on Saturday with three warm-up laps to spare of the five! Now those tyres may not be "on the menu" next year. With them gone, three drivers have already said they'll come back if we go to another brand of Crossply boots (you can drive them almost navigating through the side window and get it back!). There are deals on the table all over the place, but they all hinge on what shape the series takes next year in terms of dates and locations. What I am hoping for is at least one trip to Lausitz, and at least one to Brands, and maybe one other major road course. These cars can do it, they ran happily in the GTA class in Trans-AM. There is so much I'd like to say now, but I can't. Only that I'm expecting to be grinning from ear to ear in a few weeks. Rob. Now to repair the car. And buy two more.........perhaps... |

Well we wait in hope i guess.
But to be honest you are going to have to pull a rather large rabit out of a hat if your going to rekindle anything like the sort of interest you had in the series during 2002/2003. And you are going to have to change alot of peoples veiws of large oval racing in the uk. Dont get me wrong i love nascar and all that but try to explain it to people and its like "Its boring, they just go round in circles" Look at Andy Rouses attempt to bring Aussie style touring cars over here with the scv8 series (something like a jag was'nt it?). About 3 years ago I had a season ticket to Rockingham and went to every round and it was great. Darren Turner in the HTML car, Rob Speak, Stevie Hodgson, Ian Mckeller. Sponsors like Learn Direct, Mc'ds, virgin, etc Thats to me when it looked liked it was going to take off and then it seemed to fall apart. Come on Rob prove me wrong and ill come back to watch again! |

Look at all of that lovely tank tape!
Donuts were pants though. I was absolutely cattled after that race. Colin made up for it! As for the bands, etc..., not sure what Mr Buller has planned for next year, the rumour mill is very optimistic for a good show next year. More will be announced in the next few weeks - we hope. One thing is a fact - the circuit, the teams, and the county council, are working on making it big again, sustainably, standing on it's own two feet, not propped up with investors money from a long way away! I'm going to start work on my existing chassis in a week or so, and in parallel with my other chassis. All to get it ready for Autosport, and so it's ready to rock for the new season. I think our target for this season is 22-24 cars by the end of the year. Rob. |
