ZANDVOORT HISTORIC GP

Now well established, but first time at the circuit after the 'improvements' for the F1 circus. Grids to include Masters, HGPCA, FiA HF3, HSCC HF2 and F3 500s.

The circuit looks really good and I'm happy to see Zandvoort back on the calendar. The new banked corner looks challenging with little run off for those overly committed.

Some of the other corners seem slightly banked/well cambered. Have they always been like that or is it a trick of the camera/shadows?

I have done the previous two meetings in HFJ and the F3.
Both events were fun.
Amazing circuit, and a nice friendly event
a bit of a Mini OGP

Last year I did manage to qualify the Lotus 22 in 5th position on the grid, which was rewarding.

So, yes, I love the circuit, even if there are some scary sections.

Accoding to my original plans for 2020, I did not want to do this event because it would have been too close to Goodwood for my taste.

The Goodwood was cancelled,
that put Zandvoort back into picture
Buuuut then, the Motogiro (the Mille Miglia for classic motorbikes, but much more fun than the MM) was rescheduled to September, one week after Zandvoort.

Upshot
I would have liked to be able do Zandvoort this year,
but I will give motorbikes my preference, a no brainer for me

Interesting to see that the HF1 Grid has a Formula 5000 car which is intriguing. The car did demo laps at Brands so interesting to see.

Zandvoort Masters Formula One

A strange decision to allow Steve Farthing and his Formula 5000 Lola into the Masters Historic Formula One race, a pragmatic decision no doubt due to the small field. Steve Farthing is a very quick driver and his cars always beautifully prepared and he put on a great show in the lunchtime demos at Thruxton last year. Here he is chasing Steve Worrad's Chevron in the Saturday lunchtime demo at Thruxton.

There's a few UK drivers and teams on there who are prepared to quarantine for 14 days?!

Shades of the 'good old days' when events like the annual Race of Champions was open to both F5000 and the F1 cars of the day. I remember being at Brands to witness Gethin win the ROC in 1973 driving a Chevron F5000 IIRC, narrowly beating a Yardley McLaren F1 and James Hunt in 3rd.. (IIRC being something that happens less and less these days with advancing years.... )

It would be great to have, every year, one race of the Masters with a mixed grid of F1 and F5000 cars!
