Chilton already laments the Subaru

Quote:
The Subaru in my mind is a car which shouldn’t be on the grid, and everyone else thinks that, as its engine is so far down and so far backwards…the centre of gravity just isn’t right, and can dive down the inside of anyone and make them look stupid because it has that much of an advantage, it shouldn’t be on the grid

Getting his excuses in early, then!

What he should have said is that Ash Sutton is gifted with an ability to handle the Subaru in a way that none of the other BRM drivers is able, not even the veteran Plato.

Maybe what Chilton really wants is for Sutton to be handicapped or possibly banned from the BTCC.

Graham Hill would probably have done alright with it.....

It'll be interesting to see if the Subaru is garbage as usual at the Indy circuit.

The possibility to build a Subaru was around long before BMR did it and I bet none of them would be complaining if they had done it first. If there is any fault it's with TOCA for not stopping the possibility when it was first mentioned.

Sutton is a top drawer driver in anything as he's shown in TCR, Clios and at Goodwood.

Plato - that's a good question. Has he still got it? I am still confused as to why he has struggled so much over the last couple of years in what is championship winning car. I assume that the change to FWD will bring about a reversal of his fortunes. The Vauxhall looked decent last season - in some races more than others.

While we are talking about the old guard - how is Collard going to fare in a FWD car, after years of driving the BMW?

The Car is part GT , part touring car when you spend time looking at its engine layout.

Have you seen any of his results outside of the Subaru? He does it in every car he's driven.

It's going to be interesting. How well the Civic do with a season under it's belt? Will Plato be back on form now he's back with FWD? How quickly will the new BMW and Corolla get up to speed? Not to mention how the top drivers in independent drivers will do too.

Did you not watch the 2016 season then? Sutton put the MG on pole in only his second ever round in BTCC at Donington. Then won at Croft in the MG in the wet. Then pole again at Silverstone and finished 1st on the road before the car was DQ'd.

Sutton proved himself in a 'normal' car long before he got in the Subaru. When have we seen the MG anywhere near that competitive since? Never.

The problem is that, in the eyes of certain people (and at least one on here), Ash Sutton isn't driving a Honda prepared by Dynamics.

Yes, he would beat him. Turks would also beat Ash at times.

At the end of the season, if Turkington and Sutton were teammates, they'd both be title contenders in any car on the grid.

There might not be very much that we can all agree on, but I did think that Ash Sutton's talent might've been one of those things.

Alas not.

Oh yes. Turks would be in the same ballpark, but I would reckon Ash would come out on top over a season.

I could also see Ash wiping the floor with the majority of WTCR drivers too.

anyone remember Turks back in the old S2000 E90 days he humiliated the WTCC drivers so much that FIA changed the privateer points system from Saturday to sunday just because of him....

But we do because (as a rookie) Ash drove the wheels off a very tired MG6, producing the sort of performance it hasn't been near replicating since. He also did it at a very slippery Croft having (I think I'm right in saying) not raced a touring car in the wet before.

He's an outstanding young talent and we (as BTCC fans) are very fortunate to have him on the grid.
