jellison has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!

For those that wonder what the old track is like now.

We had to pay homage to it on our bikes post visiting the Stavelot Museum.

Obviously going the Wrong way!

Hmm.

Your challenge for next year is to shoot the entire trip (in the correct direction) using something like a GoPro and then editing to speed it up to make it an 'in period' video.

Great shots and a great idea.

Brilliant story for you on the old track. Chatting to Fitzpatrick this weekend i asked him what it was like to race on the original Spa track. He told me a story about a new team mate he had when racing the BMW CSL. Aparantly this young upstart went 4 seconds quicker that him in qualafing. John then said to me "what was his name now " o yea he say,s. "Niki Lauda"

I'll get straight onto that.

It beggars believe the speed the top car from 19070 would have been pulling on those road over 200 easy. From the top of Kemmel it is all down hill for Miles and miles with just the odd gentle curve (probably not gentle at 917 speeds).

Pictures from the museum if anyone wants them?

I'm looking for the name of the small GRP car with Mini underpinnings that was damaged badly. I can't find it anywhere in the entry lists.

It had about the size of a Mini Marcos, but didn't look like one. The owner (don't know his name either) told me it was the only one in existance.

It was damaged pretty badly, as even the A-post was torn.

Does anybody know what car I'm talking about? IIRC it was in the Masters Gentleman Drivers / Top Hat Masters All Series paddock.

cheers, Wim

ps: sorry for being on-topic-ish

Ah, with a little help from 'Maximum Mini' author Jeroen Booij, I found out what car it is: The Fletcher owned by Paul Stanworth... Hope the car can be fixed!

Certainly agree with this, Paul told me it took 3 years to build the car and get it to Spa for its first appearance and sadly seconds for a continental competitor to have him off the track.
Add on a tow truck breakdown and recovery to UK it was an expensive and sad weekend.
However like most like minded competitors no doubt he will be back with the unique car.

Fletcher Ogle

Yes, a very expensive weekend.

The car is now 95% fixed and will be racing out there again next year. Still trying to track down its total history, but I know it back as far as 1971, when it was bought as a rolling shell, shod with Minilites and green spot dunlop racers, bucket seat, all wiring and plumbing inside the car. Race suspension etc.
It was then turned into a rally car until 1973, then stored away.

Speaking to Ralph(Broadspeed), he remembered building my Fletcher, for what he thought was to do the Targa Floria. Still not sure whether it ran, or just went into club motosport? Very Interesting.

It was painted green then. But as respect to Ralph, I went the Broadspeed colours, to match my other cars.

The car is completely unique. The only hand built car by Fletchers. However, they did have three half built bodies from Ogles, when they bought the moulds. Hence 3 cars with a bit of both.

Anyway, whatever it did in the past, Its now going to continue to race. And it seemed very competative

Regards

paul..............

When we met you on the way back, you had a wrecked race car, a broken transporter and to cap it all had left some personal belonging in the rescue truck, a weekend from hell if ever there was one.

Excellent news that you have nearly fixed the Fletcher, did you also mange to get back your effects in the rescue truck?

So, was enough room left for the car which had (almost but not quite) overtaken (should he have lifted a tad?), did the overtaking car pull in too much to soon, or was it a racing incident? How interesting to have the video. For my money, it was an avoidable one and should not have happened.

But rather scary seeing the car flip like that - I iamgine it had a few screw barrel rolls off camera - and testament to the safety bits on our cars.

It was a bit scary, and in the cold light of day and with hindsight the white car should have lifted, but when the red mist descends .....

Listen again, the white car did lift but it looks like the Cortina moved over too soon and the white car may have run on the N/S kerbing and bounced slightly out again.

Probably not a lot to gain from endlessly debating this. Sorry, I shouldn't have commented on the interesting video. But it does prove once again that when it does go wrong, it can go wrong bl@@dy quickly.

That video clip brought back memories. I was racing in the German FF2000 race a couple of years back and did the same overtaking manoeuvre in the same place. Ended up in the barriers and was pretty up set with the other driver. We met after and discussed the shunt and i have to say that i should of given him a bit more room.

Its a scary corner at the best of times you are going so fast through there with little space if it goes wrong..fun though although I prefer to do it on four wheels.

I don't think you mean a 'necessary' incident Zef?

As you say 1st lap of a 1 hour race! I don't normally comment on incidents on here so I'll leave that comment hanging in mid air.

I was trying to refrain from laying blame, but the sarcasm often gets lost on here.

I can't think of anything positive to say so best leave it

Likewise. My last annual appraisal said "Not everybody understands or shares your sense of humour"
