ERX - Round 2 Montalegre April 27-28

In two weeks time the ERX moves to Portugal.

Michael de Keersmaeker, JL Paillier (both Peugeot 208) and Mats Lysen (Renautl Clio Mk3) will join the Supercars grid.
Leppihalme has backing for 5 events so he will return.
No Henning Solberg.

WTCC has a race in same weekend so no Munnich/August in Super1600.

Based on the last 3 events (2009/2010/2011) we can expect around 1 to 4 cars in both Supercars en Super1600 class.

Hickey should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I was meaning to put something in the ERX (general thread) but might as well hijack this one. I think/hope that they sort out the rules for changing engines/turbos. My understanding was that this was bought into the ERC a year or two ago as a cost-saving thing (levelling the playing fields, as not everyone can afford to bring 3 supercar engines to each round!!).

Well, I think that is less of a convincing argument with the money in the current crop of supercar drivers and, with the increased strain of doing 4 heats, a semi and a final, i think engine/turbo trouble is inevitable. I don't want to see the already thin grids made more of a nonsense by incredible harsh penalties for changing engines. It might actually encourage people to pootle round at 80% pace just to get to the final, and I don't think that's what this revamped championship should be about.

Hope for a good event in Portugal, better reliability and (somehow) better support class entries (though as FIRE suggests above, this is unlikely).

Easy to say if you live in SPain!

You have 3 or 4 ERC rounds near your home, so don't moan, while here there is only one.

And about the track, you're rigth, was much better the Lousada circuit.

Well the reason rallycross has lots of rounds near me is because that is where it is largely based!

Its like having a round of the Ski world cup in Kenya or the cricket world cup in Germany, where they don't play it much!

There are more Portugese drivers racing at Montalegre than British drivers at Lydden "home of rallycross" Hill...

Not any more, 2 have dropped out. Im all for the ERC not just concentrating on central and northern Europe so as to increase interest in other places but despite Portugal being a regular for some years the quantity and quality there doesnt seem to have improved and very rare for any of their drivers to venture to other rounds. Had it not been for IMG and Montelegre paying for the privilage of an ERC round I wonder if they would have been back on the calendar this year?

I was never sure about the old system of dropping the 2 weakest rounds each year only for them to return 12 months later, but now I guess it doesnt matter what sort of event you put on though as we saw at Lydden with the lack of other on track activity you are very much at the mercy of IMG.

Petter looks like he's got his mojo back. Good to see Lysen and MDK back too.

Very little news again, looking at the times the hopefully now legal Jeanney seems to be Solbergs biggest threat, a poor day for Havall and Hansen, more problems for Doran. Only 17 drivers set times in 2nd heats with the locals well off the pace. Anyone else able to give more info than that?

Only 9 cars set times in 1600s 2nd heats and again the local driver is well off the pace. A poor day for Tohill in touring cars, doesnt matter though as just 6 cars means the final is already sorted!

Oh and it snowed, hope there were no gaps in the timetable so spectators didnt have to suffer too much and with all of 25 races tomorrow Im sure IMG/Montalegre will have learnt from Lydden and keep spectators entertained...

Hasnt done either of them any good as neither has made the semis unless others drop out. Hvaal just scrapes in and a poor day for Solberg so far, luckily for him that wheel fell off on 2nd heats yesterday jusy as he went over the finish line otherwise he would have struggled to make the finals.
The other classes finals were decided before a wheel had even turned yesterday, IMG really should be concentrating on improving those 2 catagories or do they care?

Appoligies for double post
Final Results
1st Doran
2nd Lysen
3rd Solberg

Eriksson wins 1600s, Larsson Touring cars.

Seemed to be another very long lunch break, possibly longer than Lydden with no semis for the touring cars.
