After first few laps I was afraid there's no cars left on the end, but then they eased a little. Frenzen/Schneider battle was the best part of the race, unfortunately it was for 11th place.
But Ekströms win was a good thing, just to see him celebrating: really nice kung-fu jump from bonnet of the car to a fence there. |

It was a slightly dull race I guess, but great job anyway Ekstrom.
Great work Aiello getting up to sixth. I am very unhappy though that blatent team orders are already in affect at Mercedes - I'm sorry, I don't buy the brake failing excuse as Alesi was perfectly able to hold off Paffett for third. We know how great the racing can be without team orders, and this is the time of the season where the drivers establish their championship battles - it's not Albers yet who is necessarily the Mercedes #1 (though I admit, it's likely he will be). |

Good victory by Ekstrom and despite what Carlton Kirby/Tim Harvey were saying, it was in fact his 2nd race win!!! His first was in 2002 but I bet they don't realise DTM existed before Motors TV started covering it!!
And they also keep mentioning how Albers won 4 races last year against Schneiders 2. But they said the reason why BS won the championship was cos Albers threw it off more!! In fact he only finished out of the points once, due to a puncture at the last Hockenheim round!! |

There was quite a bit of bodywork littered around the place at the end. The switchback by Paffet than clipped his front corner was good and most of the litter came from things like that. Nothing silly, just close action.

Speaking of Carlton Kirby... is it just me, or is the man absolutely talentless as a commentator?!?!

No - he's terrible. How he gets continual work with Eurosport and Motors TV is beyond me.
I also think he does a lot of voiceovers for shopping channels too. |

I've heard worse - to be honest, apart from F1 - I think we've got a fairly good crowd of commentators this & last year.
Eurosport have had some in the past who didn't know what sport they were commentating on, let alone drivers names & nationalities etc. |

As the German commentators said, give Ekström a F1 chance!

So did Opel deserve or "earn" their 5/6th place finish? Or was it merely b/c the other cars were knocked out of contention. I'm definitely hoping Opel will do well to keep Opel interested in the DTM!

Opel had the race pace since Hockenheim, but they have 2 problems 1. can't qualify on a good postion 2. if someone gets forced into a spin it's an opel

The old order changeth... Aiello and Schneider are having a pretty unimpressive season so far, and Joest have been nowhere, much to my surprise.

Opel better get a win in quickly as, IMO, the DTM will collapse within a couple of years if they continue with pointless races in places such as Shangai.
Have they not learned from the disaster that was the ITC. It appears not! As for Joest, I doublt they have had enough testing with the A4, and anyway they will be back on the new Audi prototype program next year. Last edited by JAG; 19 May 2004 at 22:05. |
