Supercars- Without Ford?

So what does the forum think will happen if there are no Fords on the grid in the coming years? It does my head in as to why Ford wont give permission to the teams to run the Mustang or another product. I'm in the car trade and know for a fact the dealers push the performance and pedigree of the car when selling it, so why not cash in with little or no money up front.

The whole point of the V8'S was Ford and Holden, they have tried and almost totally failed to bring in new manufacturers. So with 22 Holden's and maybe 4 Nissans how long will it last.?

Simply put, Supercars is not an attractive Series for manufacturers.

Why are you sure there will be 4 Nissans? Or any?

Nissan are uncertain beyond this year.

Holden are uncertain beyond next year.

Many drivers' contracts finish at the conclusion of next year.

Between now and the end of 2019, the sport is going to need to figure a lot of things out, if it wishes to continue in it's current, or an evolved guise.

Possibly because Ford Australia doesn't see the benefit of having the Mustang brand, or any of their brands beyond the extinct Falcon, attached to Supercars at the moment

Not the first time this stuff has happened in motorsport

Ford Australia do not wish to be associated with Supercars racing.

That angle is only (typically) relevant to middle-aged people, not young hip, urbanites which are who Ford Australian are more interested in (for some reason).

Thankfully Nissan didn't hold a grudge and returned when made to feel welcome.

Lets face it cars per se are a diminishing part of the market these days. By far the most successful Ford is the Ranger (second most popular in sales terms overall, behind the HiLux. SUV (small medium and large) and Ute sales account for far more units sold from all manufacturers, more than total passenger cars of all sizes.. The best selling vehicle in Australia is I believe the Toyota HiLux. Ford are hardly a major player these days, having fallen behind Mitsubishi in total unit sales.

It is hard for Ford or Holden to justify spending money on Supercars as the passenger car market continues to diminish.

A breakdown of 2017 sales can be found here:

CAMS wanted to go with Class 2 and parity 5L Holden's & Ford's to that speed, Ford & Holden though wanted the Championship to themselves and got Shell and Channel 7 on their side and rail-roaded their regulations through.

It was a kick in the teeth to Nissan and BMW who had supported Australian motor racing far more than Ford or Holden in the preceeding decade.... hell BMW fronted with more works cars than Holden or Ford in 1993 even though they were told they weren't wanted and were paritied out of winning...

Ford Dealer Team?

Who knows. It is quite shocking how far Ford has fallen in the sales numbers.

The way Ford are going with vehicle sales in Australia, they may as well shutdown the dealerships and turn themselves into some new age business!

Holden are not far behind, selling fewer vehicles last year than Mazda and Hyundai (plus of course Toyota). Only just ahead of Mitsubishi.

And that with the Ford Ranger in the top 10 individual models!

Clearly Fiesta/Focus/Mondeo arent troubling the scorekeepers with massive volume numbers.

You could also argue Holden's fall has been mightier, and even more rapid.
