Sandgroper should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Holden Splitters

Tell me if Im wrong but if Holden are having constant splitter issues now how are they going to go on Conrod Straight or are places like Phillip Island just as quick in terms of straight line speed ? Worries me ?

Thoughts?

The teams affected, need to do a better job of them.

Holdens have in the past lapped quicker minus the front splitter.

Backagain has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
They seem to be doing exactly what they are supposed to do, split.

Watch the bar that came off 1 on Friday - no foam.

Subsequent bar that went on and ran problem free - foam.

Maybe some are trying to run sans the foam, though the results don't exactly look like it's a worthy endeavour.

18 would be a GRM bar which is not on the same level as a T8/Lightning bar so something else entirely unrelated to foam could be behind it

Incorrect... Team 18 are using T888 sourced front splitters to use on T888 built car. Earlier in the season they used GRM Splitters.

So why is there secrecy about how they are attached? Surely it is in the categories interest to have something failsafe?

Presumably its the mounting system and airflow capture that can alter the downforce generated by the front splitter, and the glow of air into the brakes/engine...

It's another area where teams perhaps have too much freedom.

Too much or not enough? Some of the teams are working around it by running more front ride height which cant help set up wise.

You would hate to have it happen at Bathurst.

From what I saw on TV, the lower the ride height and the softer the settings at the front end, see's the splitter slammed into the road hard during braking. The T8 failure from Friday looked like it had compromised the integrity of the construction of the splitter, and broken something behind. Where the lip comes out at the bottom of the air-dam, the length of this lip looks to place that join under some stress, which would explain the additional gusseting that GRM have been talking about. You could the lip pivoting at this point when they zoomed in on the #1 car during practise.

Whilst the Team 18, it looked to have been hitting the deck for some time and wore out the lamination along the transition between the bar and the actual wing plane underneath. Hence why that bit got spat out down the main straight. I've seen teams previously repair the transition section of the splitter at race meets before by adding additional resin to the areas with high wear.

As for the foam that came out, maybe Team 18 packed the inside of the lip with the foam to create a better 90 degree gusset/hold. Once you loose the bottom wing element of the splitter, everything just came out.

This isn't a manufacturing problem, this has been bought on by the additional length of that lip, and then throw in the front end settings, and you have a recipe for disaster.
