Aston Martin Racing Le Mans line-up

I thought this deserved but mods feel free to merge to a thread.

Aston Martin Racing have announced their driver linup:
007 - Tomas Enge, Johnny Herbert and Peter Kox
009 - David Brabham, Darren Turner and Rickard Rydell

No suprises really but a very good linup none the less.

Driver line up never was a problem anyway.
But good to see Kox back in again. He deserves another win for all his effort over the past ten years in GT1 racing. He is quick, now a winning car for him

Good to see Johnny Herbert back in sportscar racing too! Looks like an awsome line up and Aston definately going for the win in GT1

I heard Alan Simonsen tested with AMR for a Le Mans seat, does anyone know how he went? he obviously didn't get it though.

Wasn´t he supposed to be in an danish entered Aston? I think that did not make it on the entry-list - or am I wrong?

I assume this is the Le Mans driver confirmation - am I correct?
Good line-up though.

Great line-up! I'm not very familiar with Rickard Rydell, but the rest are top notch blokes. They should be able to give Corvette Racing a run for their money.

Rydell is a good driver, raced for Prodrive in 2002 with the Ferrari 550, down to personal opinion but I would say he is up to the same standard as Enge and Herbert, not perhaps on outright speed but he perhaps doesent take as many risks and will get the car home, similar to Ortelli. IMO.

About Rydell.

He should be regarded as one of the very best there is, just to take a few examples: Drove at LeMans in 1990 in Schuppan's Porsche 962 and came 12th together with Hurley Haywood and Wayne Taylor at an age of only 23! He also did a few races in the All-Japanese Sportscar Championship that year if I remember correctly. Won the Macau GP in 92 and set the lap record at Macau the year after. Has 21 victories and 41 wins in the BTCC between 94 and 2000, only Menu can beat that in wins. Drove for Prodrive in 3 races in FIA-GT in 2001 winning 2 of them (one together with Peter Cox as a matter in fact, also drove with Menu that year). Drove LeMans in 2002 in Prodrive's 550 with Menu and Enge and was 3rd in GTS in 2003 in the same car with McRae and Turner. Was one of the drivers who tested and developed the Aston Martin DBR9 for prodrive and was one if not the one who did the most testing with it.
Funny how the same names keep appearing together...
Other then that he's been driving in ETCC and WTCC with a couple of wins, also driven V8Supercars at Bathurst and Sandown, winning the AMP Bathurst 1000 in 1998.

What can I say, he's not a newbie when it comes to sportscar racing and LeMans, thats for sure. As SALEEN S7R pointed out, he might not be the fastest driver on outright speed, but when it comes to a whole season or 24 hours he's always there to deliver.

Yep, Rydell's more than worthy of his place in the team, an outstanding driver!

As i think i said in another thread, Enge leaving the pitlane at ten to midnight during the last qualifying session is always one of my highlights. Listening to Radio Le Mans when they announce the fact is another..

Off topic a little but his Bathurst win was in a 2 litre Volvo when Australia also ran the 2 litre series against the 5 litre series which both ran 1000km races at Bathurst, so he hasn't won in V8 Supercars... http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re...0/1998.ARDC.E6

Still a good steerer though

I know, I know. I did write AMP Bathurst, therefore it should be understood to be the ST race.

Back on topic now tho.
