I definitely remember the name, but couldn't say much more than that without digging through old Autosports....

Not sure who's in the Nova but tha't David "Jess" Yates in the Capri/ Jess know drives in the Heritage with Graham "Skid" Scarborough and also a Chevron with Jackie Oliver in the Masters stuff.

The bottom picture is unfortunately Dad's Monza, I arrived just as it happened and I think it was David Sears (Red Bull Tema Manager) who crashed it, will try and dig that one out from my brain!!

Wasn't Letchworth Roofing Graham (Skid) Scarborough's sponsor? (Nat that I can ever remember him in a Dolomite...)

The Golf I would say is Andy Mclellan (sp? - who went on to race a Colt Stariion) and the Dolomite is either Graham or Trevor Scarborough. In some ways I'd lean more towards Trevor as I don't think Graham raced it that often and Trevor was still racing in the early '80s.

Andy MacLennan? as you said, he went on to race a Starion, still in the black Simmons colours (they made electronic synthesised drums and percussion- my brother's a drummer and he still has some of their kit stashed in his loft that dates back to the early 90's, shortly before Simmons went out of business http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simmons...c_drum_company) )

Think they carried on running the Golf as well at occasional races into 1985 or so, but don't remember who drove it

Oh the memories! Going as a kid and watching epic battles between Gerry Marshal and Skid Scarborough amongst others along with the classic willhires. Would definately be interested in DVD with these on. I was raised on many an epic battles between Capri 2.8i's !!

Not an actual saloon, but aswell as prod saloons, Uniroyal ran a production sports car championship and Gerry Marshal ran a Lotus Esprit Turbo in that

The Lotus was built by Andy Rouse and Pete Hall (hence whiy it was blue and white, ICS colours) but they couldn't get on with it so Dad bought it from them and raced it himself. It was an ex-Bond car and was bloody quick but very fragile.

Dad sold it and the bloke who bought it painted it black and he then sold it to the Haynes Motor Musuem and that's where it is today.

I have a few pictures of it when Dad raced it but my IT ineptitude stops me from porting them!!

Still OT Didn't Rouse and Hall also run a Porky 928 in ICS colours at one point?

Back on topic I forgot that Graham S had a brother who raced as well, cor that was a long time ago (before my time too)

That Astra rolling in earlier pics might be James Kaye or David Da Costa or someone like that? Are those shot from 1984 or 85?

Crikey, what a shot!

Which year was that one taken?

I thought Norris Miles GTV6 only appeared in 1984 (the year he won his class or the title?) but the liveries on those 2 Capris suggests it must have been taken in 1982 or something?

hi there

seeing that capri photo made me think

Skid Scarboroughs Capri has the same livery as VVW2W a Capri that used to race in Slick 50

the other Capri has the same livery as the one Skid used to race in Group 1

any connections ?

I think there's reference to the Autoplan Capri earlier in the thread d-b.

Gerry once told me that this car went to Ireland and was rolled by guy called Harald Hagan, and then ended up back in Skid's hands as a Classic Grp 1 entry still with the sticker in the back window!

I also recall the 'VVW' reg'd road saloon, I've got a pic of it rounding Redgate amongst a huge pack of other Capris and Rovers somewhere. I think that it originally started its life as a Ford UK staff car or press car.

Attached image has it second right looking 'stright on' at it. Quality's a bit poor but it's the car d-b refers to taken at Donington, October 1990. I seem to recall the orange/gold car on far right ended its race just a bit further up the start/finish straight in a cloud of steam, so I don't think he drove his car home afterwards!.

Strictly back on topic ('VVW2W' ended up as a Road Saloon after its prodsaloon days!) Here's Colin Blower's Starion and I think the Capri is Roy Eaton's in the Donington Paddock, April 1985.

It was a Monroe round supporting the British F3. However I seem to recall that for some strange reason there wasn't any Monza's at this event but I might be mistaken.

The Starion was the pace setter in the big class for 2-3 years, particularly in Colin's hands (although Andy McLennan would have something to say about that) and Skid Scaroborough gave up the unequal Capri struggle and campaigned one himself in 1986!

Here Blower's car is in the original BF Goodrich colour scheme which he ran from '83-'85. He later ran a predominantly white livery IIRC.

Eatons' car was I believe the one that went on to win that year's Willhire 25 hours with the infamous 'OK Yah' number plates.

That brings back memories!!

Dad had tried to be clever and built a brand new engine for the race as he thought the Colts and Escorts wouldn't last and the Monza was the car to beat (by this time time Dad had got an RS Turbo after being messed around by Mitsubishi and Ford on respective Colts and Cosworths).

The Monza wasn't finished in time and was rubbish because they literally did finish it in the pitlane. IIRC they did 50odd laps and Dad was kicking himself, had a great team too.

I know quite a few off the teams did one off sponsorship deals for the Willhire (Dad certainly did a few times), so it might just have been a one-off for this race.
