Hyundai Monterey Sports Car Championship 2020
I've never started one of these race threads, so don't expect all the links and any helpful information. No thread was up yet though so here goes.
A season low entry unfortunately. Three series on the weekend. Lamborghini Trofeo with 2 50 minute races, one on Saturday, the other on Sunday. Michelin Challenge tomorrow at 3:30 local time, two hour race. WeatherTech Championship Sunday at 1:00, 2 hours and 40 minutes. I'll be arriving around noon tomorrow. Moved back to the Best Coast this Summer from the South East. Was pumped to go to Laguna for Car Week, Indycar, and IMSA, then Covid happened and next thing I know there are extra races in the South East and canceled races out here. Could be worse I suppose, for the longest time I thought there would be no way to attend for IMSA, luckily the track created a loophole. By either county or state protocols they are not allowed to sell tickets to the event, however there was nothing saying that people could not camp. So... limited number of camping tickets were made available, I snagged one up. Everything is open to campers except the paddock and the grandstands. I can live with that. Weather looks perfect, 70s during the day, 50s at night, likely not a cloud in the sky. Can't wait to get there tomorrow, smell the ocean breeze, hear the scrape of the cars as they gently bottom out exiting the corkscrew. |

Based on practice GTLM is going to qualify in the 1 min 20 sec range. Just like other tracks these cars are starting to enter the zone of what prototypes did in the early 2010s.
Heard about Gavin stepping away from Corvette after a great career with them. A legend of the bow tie no doubt. The competition to fill that seat will be INTENSE. At this moment it is the sought after ride in all of auto racing. |

I'm going to have to miss this live this weekend, lots of halloween related activities plus a friends wedding to go to.
MP had a great pic from an 84 IMSA race at Laguna: https://twitter.com/marshallpruett/s...185422848?s=20 Looks so good back then! |

Derani passed #55 Mazda for 4th like he was angry. Can tell with the body language of the car.

#7 Acura had a real real hard time passing the top 2 in GTLM. Some orange body work feel off.

2 hour 7 to at this point. The GT racing battles quite entertaining to watch. A of different manufacturer for each one. #16 Porsche got through it. They need to play some catch up here. Amazing they are in the championship contention. Another champion without winning a race perhaps.
