Didn't they only hit the front door, but broke the glass in both?

2020 Toyota Hilux (UK facelift)
'Toyota has also brought in a 2.8-litre diesel engine offered in other markets to complement the 2.4-litre unit already offered. It boasts 201bhp and 369lb ft of torque, taking the Hilux from 0-62mph in ten seconds flat - a full 3.2 seconds faster than the 2.4. WLTP economy figures are yet to be released, but the firm claims 36.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 204g/km as NEDC correlated figures. The Hilux’s suspension and steering have been tweaked, primarily to improve on-road comfort. Retuned shock absorbers and redesigned leaf springs are said to mean a smoother ride. ' |

Here's the actual TRX. I think I'd pass on the launch edition. What is this, Nissan?

Does anybody still make a simple commercial workhorse in this category.
They all look like luxury cars inside with all the bells whistles and gimmicks in the world to go wrong. The prices! These things used to be cheap. They are not really something you would want to fill with building material and cross a rough site with. |

Well this isn't meant for that but having seen more than a few high end trucks working and beds used as they should I don't think that would stop anyone. If you are so useless when loading or using your truck, maybe consider a stone wagon so you don't dent it. Responsible owners can use their truck and not destroy it.
And yes, you can get base model trucks. But why would R&T and the general car media care about that. |

That's very interesting. I guess power isn't a top priority for them, but then roadholding is always vital towards pick ups

Hyundai Santa Cruz
'Thought all the niches had been occupied? Hyundai reckons it’s just found a new one. Meet the Santa Cruz, the car (or should it be truck?) that lives somewhere between the worlds of SUV and pick-up. While it looks rather a lot like the latter, it’s much smaller than stuff like the Nissan Navara and Isuzu D-Max – proper workhorses – and wears the chintzy face of the latest Tucson crossover. Dig the way that Tucson looks, but don’t want the SUV ‘image’? Several hands are aloft here, and the Santa Cruz appears to answer our woes.' |

It looks like Hyundai has made an even less useable version of the vehicle than Honda has with the Ridgeline.
Looks to be smaller than the Ridgeline but bigger than the old Subaru Baja. But maybe just taller and dumber wheels to make it look bigger |

Interesting how it compares to the concept...
https://tentenths.com/forum/showpost...&postcount=126 It was always going to be a "safer look" but actually very disappointingly conventional |

Yeah, the previous "design language" of the front is much better. Still a cool ute. I wish them well around the world because it won't sell around here. I do forsee a Subaru baja type cult following ten years from now, though.

I'm not sure it is coming here? The new Ram Dakota, a mid-sized truck, is on and then off every six months. As best as I can tell it is going to happen but has been delayed by the pandemic.
There is something about the proportions of pick ups outside the US that looks off here, which is why Ford is supposedly developing a new US only Ranger and Toyota sells the Tacoma and not the Hilux. I think it's something at the back of the cab but it's hard to put my finger on. For example, the Ranger is a handsome (although nondescript) vehicle from the front, but from the back it looks bizarre on our roads - like a bed tacked onto the back of a SUV. Most people I have talked to, and I live in a place where people care and have strong truck opinions, feel the same way. The sales numbers for the Ranger are not good but in fairness this could also be to the fact that the Chevy and Toyota are newer, better designs. |
