track limits

Now that the 2024 season is done, time for a discussion. Every year there is more and mor occasions where farcical scene happen all the way from BTCC/BGT to the clubbies, But what's the solution?

Track limits violations tend to fall in these categories

Gaining an unfair advantage
eg. straight lining the course to carry more speed

punishing genuine driver errors
running wide through take the wrong line etc

Bike racing means the old school methods of circuit furniture can't be used for cars these days, and we all know what tyre stacks do anyway....

What would you do?

As a former examining observer/ post chief we were often told to report any indiscretions by drivers. It seems that track limits have become the most reported of these. As has happened recently in F1, it is not always the drivers fault. Must be careful here as could open a can of worms. IMO.

I rarely report the first occasion unless it's massively off-track due to driver error. I will report concurrent occurrences or blatant disregard of limits

How are track limits policed around the world at club/grassroots level? From my travel to Japan the culture doesn't encourage such driving behaviour so its self-imposed and just isn't a thing, everyone knows the limit and rarely step beyond it, if they do then they give any advantage up before officials make them do it.

From my experience of marshalling in a reasonable number of European countries, it is similar to the UK (i.e. a combination of observation and technology, similar to MSV circuits).
