V8Supercars go west
Fianl session today at Wanneroo raceway, I can't call it Barbagallo, was a practice for the V8s and all 32 cars took part.
Slowest was Junior Johnson who did just 2 laps, obviously a problem there. The other 31 cars were covered by just 1.6 seconds! The K Mart commodores were 1-2, but Skaife was 6th, foxing perhaps? Bowe was 3rd fastest and Rodney's car was 9th fastest. Not checking IDs on Friday perhaps? |

Car 7 had his finger pulled out in practice remember at Canberra...
Where's Faulkner? What happened to his continuing speed from Eastern Creek? |

1. Todd Kelly 58.8884s - fast bloke 2. Greg Murphy 58.9126s 3. John Bowe 59.0244s - good to see him enjoying a good season 4. Jason Bright 59.0453s 5. Russell Ingall 59.1668s 6. Mark Skaife 59.1723s 7. Paul Radisich 59.2594s - hope he can keep this up today 8. Marcos Ambrose 59.3111s 9. Rodney Forbes 59.3234s - about time... 10. Paul Morris 59.3646s - it's been rough since the fat bloke left... Well, well, well, surprise, surprise! HRT qualified 1-2 as usual, Bowe is 3rd fastest, well done JB! Rick Kelly is 4th fastest, did this kid suddenly learn how to drive or something, I've always wondered why car 5 in the Superteam usually struggled to make the top 20. Rodney is back to his usual form, he's 24th, but the real drama is at DJR, they have qualified 30th and 32nd. Dear oh dear oh dear! What on Earth has happened there?

waaaay too many penaltys given out, and for small things, i might not like Skaife, but he didnt deserve that penalty.

I don't think Skaife deserved that penalty, though when it happened i did wonder for some reason whether anything would happen, definatly way over the top though.
And if Skaife gets penalised for brushing Murphy, why wasn't Ambrose penalised for hitting Ingall out of the way, and how did Ingall get penalised for Steven Johnson running into him. |

I turned it off after the penalty. If they're giving out penalties for simple taps, it's not worth watching. Pathetic really. Almost like they're trying to stop the drivers from having a go.

Agree on the Skaife penalty, it was borderline, but he did gain a slot because of it, and the way Timbo tends to read that is as a penalty. But it's good to see him get one for a change...
Ambrose's one happened (allegedly) as other incidents were going on and got lost in the radio shuffle. I'd expect a retrospective penalty for it coz it deserved one. And if that's true as to why it wasn't called immediately then that's pretty average in my opinion. Haven't seen the Ingall one, but if a car's run into him, I can only assume there was a penalty handed out for a brake test. It's been done before. But the officials cant win anyway, someone's always gonna whinge about lenient or harsh. How about just watching the racing? Yes, It know, it's supercabs and it's like watching paint dry, but I'm sure the officials dont like having every single call second guessed. Last edited by Flaggie; 30 Jun 2002 at 16:03. |

gtr69 - as you saw in my thread about Crennan, Faulkner's speed at Eastern Creek was as a result of input from TWR and JF's driving ability taking advantage of the input. This is fact not rumour, gossip or inuendo.

The bloke who wins every single race/round retires so his teammate wins instead. Competitive class the V8's are, aren't they?
Once again, another upsetting weekend for the Blue Oval fans, but how good was Brad Jones and John Bowe? 5th place for Brad, and Bowe is tenth in the championship - incredible. The lowlight yesterday was watching Glen Seton trundle around in 20th Poor bloke, only 3 years ago he was Fords leading light and in '97 he was the best of them all. A sad tale really. Well done to Brighty, it's a shame it was another TWR 1-2, but I can't really fault them. Regarding the alleged stewerds....hmmm....how many drive-thru penalties were given out? 30? To continue AVESCO's circus style racing they seem to prefer, how about a compulsory drive thru for every car on lap 1....It's ridiculos. |

Remember the last time Skaife was penalised like that? It was at Calder last year, when did the same thing to Steven Johnson at the first corner and gained an advantage. I might not agree with such penalties, but at least it's not without precedent.

I guess the problem is does the level of punishment fit the crime?
I think people want to see close racing in general, and the occasional panel rubbing (and I stress rubbing not deformation) going on. If a driver is expected to judge being within half a foot from the car in front to create good racing, then occasionally his judgement will mean he goes that half a foot too far and makes contact. I don't see that, provided the right foot is not kept in and the car in front is pushed clean off the track or turned around that it should be panalised. Larry seemed to think it was a bit of a joke, and Greg Murphy didn't appear to have anything to say about it. During his interview he simply stated the Skaife had way too much pace for him early in the race. Maybe if Skaife finished in front of him he might not have been as relaxed, but I think it was a harsh penalty for a fairly minor incident. At least people might stop saying that the powers that be want Skaife to win everything. |

Can anyone tell me if Todd Kelly was given a penalty for his partof the incident which put Lowndes in the bunker in race 2?
Sidecar- Dean is signed up with Briggs for the enduros, apparently alongside Max Wilson. I think he has also recently had a dab in the V8 BRutes. |

Canto and noske where both at the track this weekend and what was the true stroy on skafie going off. If he said he had a machanical i would have to say lie of the century. It was a lovely dumby by russel that got him!
Hey and for all those from the past few years saying that the track needs an up grade to produce passing should open there eyes. It had to be the most passing in V8's for a long time. |

It's funny you now, I saw Skaife hit Muphy and shove him out of the way and thought RUDE!, he should get a penalty for that, but then when he did get a penalty, I thought gee, that's a bit rough, he didn't deserve that. I can't make my mind up, it's a good thing i'm not a steward, eh.
I agree that Russel Ingall was harshly judged for the incident with Johnson. It takes two to tango and depending on the angle, it might have been his corner anyway. |
