Camaroz should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Of the less-famous ones, there were XD's for Murray Carter, Rusty French, Brian Callaghan, Jim Faneco, Ross Mathieson... the fates of which were never widely circulated... once again, there would be a number of people here who could probably shed some light on their fates[/QUOTE]

Murray Carters XD is alive and in rural Vic. (I would beg to differ that Murray's XD was any less famous than DJ's or anyone elses until Bathurst 1980)

Rusty still has his XD in his race shop.

I was told the Callaghan XD became the XE, whatever, Brian has it, as an XE under restoration in Sydney.

Faneco leased the Carter XE.

Ross Mathieson co-drove the Keogh XD at Bathurst in 1980.

The Keogh car was found in a garage (buy me) basically untouched since 1982 in 2003. It is now in the hands of John Mina and was entered for Oran Park but is still waiting for it's new engine.

Willmington's XD is in Tassie and is apparently ready to be restored.

The Imrie/Treasure XD has recently been found and is under resto

The Bill O'Brien Everlast XD is owned by John Harris here in QLD and is driven by Andrew Harris in Historic events. It is in the colours that it raced at bathurst in 1980 with Bob Morris and Allan Moffat. John also owns 2 XC falcons that ran in Brian Byrt colours and driven by Dick Johnson.

Andrew Harris or Craig Harris?

John Harris was the dealer principal at Bryan Byrt Ford, after Byrt died. Dick Johnson talked him into continuing the sponsorship Byrt had with Johnson. Harris was so impressed he now has quite a collection of old Ford racing cars.

I suspect the XC "Johnson" car is a reproduction. According to the Bill Tuckey Johnson bio (mid 80s) the XC's mechanicals went into the first XD. The XD's mechanicals (auto 6) went into the XC which was sold as a used car. Very used.

But it's not impossible that Harris tracked it down and rebuilt it, of course.

Another XD is the Muir / Hibbard / Geoghegan Army Reserve car. Built by Paul Liston and Brett Fisher in seven weeks, the first version did all of seven laps at Bathurst in 1980. Muir had a crash in the car at Sandown in 1981 and the car was reshelled for that year's enduros. I believe the car still running in Group C now is substantially the same car.

Yeah, the 17 XC is the real deal. The car was found a couple of years back in a paddock out west of Brisbane with a tree growing up through the bonnet. The ex-French number 32 ran for a year with 17 (after getting special dispensation to do so) while the old girl was getting restored.

The Harris's have a fantastic collection of race cars. They've got a few V8 Supercars, and a whole heap of Group C cars including a series of Falcons and Capris etc..

I think we have discussed this before,elsewhere BJ...

David Greenhalgh went through this some time ago in MRA. Everyone seems to agree that the No.9 car was a write-off and Moff got No.6 and Fred got the orange car. The fly in the ointment was that Murray Carter had vague thoughts that he got the old No.9 shell which was originally written off but then anonymously salvaged.

You can imagine that in those days most people thought no-one would notice which rear quarters went on a race car and teams would take whatever was next in the stock of panels.

I'd be extremely surprise if Moff had a spare XD shell. Hell, he never had a spare back in the Moffat-Ford-Dealer-Team days. Why keep one when you were struggling to cobble together one competitive car and a budget?

You're right Kramer, the Army Reserve Falcon is out there running again in Group C racing. It is now owned by Frank Binding a Sydney panel beater who has restored the car brilliantly, so brilliantly that in the camouflage colours he had trouble finging it when he parks it on the infield of a track.

Crash: five Falcons now less, in addition to the Johnson XCs they also have the orange O'Brien Everlast XC, and its XD successor (as mentioned in '80 Morris colours) and the Joe Moore XE.

There's a couple other cars I wonder about, John English's Falcon, the Andrew Harris car which went green for a day in '83, Paul Jones' car, Alan Jones car (did any of it survive?), Carter's XE...

Falcadore, i know the guy who has the Alan Jones's XE that Bob Morris drove in 1982 at the Endurance races. I helped the current owner with research. It then went onto Harris, then to Paul Jones and then to a guy who ive forgotten his name, lol. Then Garry got it. As mentioned earlier, Neville Butler now races the ex Carter XE.

I was forgetting that Wilmington had 2 XD's... the original light blue one is the one in Tassy in near-street fettle, and the yellow one was built in 1981 IIRC.

The Rusty French car was originally the VH Re-Car 16. The car is in Sydney and is about to be restored. Reda Alladawah (?spelling) bought it off Rusty and ran it as a Sports Sedan until he crashed it. Allawah then got hold of Peter Breileys Group C Commodore and put the good bits out of the original car and passed it off as still being the ex-Re-Car 16. The original car has been in Sydney since. Willy van Wersch has the Breiley car.

Does anyone know who owned the Thompson Ford XC when Bondy drove it. I have also seen photos of this car taken in 1978 but don't know who was driving it then.

Thanks Amonfan. So does this mean that the Thompson Ford XC is actually the Pioneer XB GT falcon of Ron Dickson. Did Ron own the falcon and the Camaro at the same time.

Clearly the word should have been "finding" but after the weekend I'd had and a genuine lack of typing skills a "typo" was produced, I'll resist the urge to say anything about your lack of punctuation though and hope you now see it was an attempt at a little levity. Have a nice day.

Did we - in this thread or another - work out the history of the HDT VK's to the satisfaction of all? I was reading 1987's "Great Race" (again!) lsat night and read with interest, the heritage of the Mobil - Brock cars that year...

Falcon's, ok, how about some of these;

- Garry Willmington's XC (Black with Green GT stripes)
- Ron Wanless/Leo Leonard Falcon from Bathurst '79

and what about some of the Capri's;

- Masterton Homes Capri's
- Barry Seton's Capri's (He still has the yellow one, was it the only one he owned just repainted, or did he own other one's previously)
