In another topic some members described Mika as not a Racer.
How can this be true of the man who had so many great starts last year (when you have to weave past the other best cars - I don't remember him crashing off at first corners last year) not to mention that amazing racing move on MS at Spa last year. Also he has generally beaten DC, who surely is a Racer. So therefore he must be a great Racer to? Or am I missing the point... |

You're right...maybe it's wrong not to call Mika a real racer...but for me he's only a great driver. What I miss is the emotion when he drives..it gives me no feelings to see him on the track...whereas if i see Alesi or TGF my heartbeats gets quicker for you can see what they do for reaching their times. Mika is fast but not a racer for me...but I admit this is a very subjective opinion and doesn't have to be shared by others.

I think the key point here is "the man who had so many great starts last year".
Mika is a great starter but as far as racing is concerned that tends to be the end of it. In the past, especially in 1998, it was very clear that he was a great started and was capable of pulling away from the field when he had a clear track in front of him. Often if he hasn't made any progress up the field in the first few laps he seems to just give up |

Good point Orange...and wodonnell...
True...a good starter doesn't mean a good racer. See the starts Diniz made in the last seasons...he always was great but who would call him a racer?? |

After winning the Canadian GP, after Mansell ran out of fuel in the last lap at the hairpin, Piquet was asked what does it take to win a race:
"Well, you got to finish it in first." |
