Sexying up V8Supercars

This week's MeN suggests that Mr Crowe is not the only high profile signing to the series, to kick start interest in it.

While an announcement is not expected to be made for some time, we expect American rocker Pink to be the face, and voice, behind the TVCs.
The principal makes sense, to bring some popular culture into the homes of everyday people, to transcend the pure motorsport concept and drag the events into thinking of a younger demographic, and presumably female, by using this artist as the front.

"Simply the Best" with Tina Turner makes most people in NSW think of rugby league when you hear it, and Ms Turner's popularity came on the back of the Mad Max movie ("We dont need another hero") But that's NSW, not the whole country and beyond...

Is Pink well known enough, popular enough, dynamic enough, to popularise herself and the sport to take it to higher levels?

And does VESA have the funding to push motorsport into every home in the country with this artist as lead anchor?

It shall be interesting to watch this process unfold

Pink seems to be very popular in Oz for some reason, mostly here in the USA she had a year or two where that was so and that was it.

Arent ACDC only playing to 500,000 fans?

Although Pink probably didn't sell her 660,000 tickets in 24 hours

ACDC would probably be a more logical choice, although I think Supercars pretty much have ACDC fans wrapped up , Pink will expose them to a possible newer, younger market...

Only thing is that making the car racing better won't entice the sorts of fans they are after with Pink. And I doubt that they have seen mich of a significant drop off in "Motorsport" fans to make any serious considerations to a major series over haul.

The issue is a face like PINK or whoever may get people to take a look at motorsport but it is the on track action that is what is going to keep them interested.

One would suspect that a 9 year gap in touring Australia would have something to do with the speed in which tickets were purchased... Who knows when you'll get the chance to see them again... maybe never?

Pffft! Judging from the Rolling Stones, AC/DC have twenty years of touring left in them...

in the tune of "it's a long way to the top":
It's a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll!

the dude from Underbelly that played Carl Williams (name escapes me) said that on 20 to 1 the other week.

Why not also make a conscious decision to improve the V8Supercar show and thereby turn the competitors into stars in their own right without having to wheel in Russell Crowe (who, let's face it, can be seen at any old South Sydney game)?

Just a thought...
