When I left school in 1961 I wanted to go into film making, however I didn't know how I should go about it and back then you was either digging holes in the road or pen pushing ! My brother was a motor mechanic so I got sidetracked into it. I worked at a couple of garages until 1967/8 and then joined him and ran a successful business. The funny thing was that one of our customers (Richard Marquand) (on Wikipedia) was a film director that lived in our village who actually offered me a job in 1986. However it would have meant moving to the States and I had to decline as I had got married and things were going well work wise, also Sue had a top job.
Unfortunately he died in 1987 aged 49 so if I had have upped sticks it would probably have been a bad decision ! (but who knows) ?

I used to do gardening for a film director he was based at Pinewood . When I was 16 and left school he offered be a job at the studios .Dad said I could work for JW Automotive as he was the teams truckie . Too this day I do t know why I did not take up any of these offers . Like you Gordon went and worked at a small garage . The rest as they say is history . Great film Gordon . Thanks

Not the best days racing at Castle Combe for team Delta . Duncan engine seized in qualy . Sir John had a good first race in awful rain and hail . P9 for him . Missfire in second race so retired . I still enjoy the 500 races and the guys and girls involved are real enthusiast . On our way to Mugello now. I will keep you posted .?

Feeling a little older today.... went to bed last night as a sexagenarian.... today I woke up as a septuagenarian! Yes the big 70 today. I dont normally do Birthday celebrations but apparently I am going out for dinner with a few friends tonight.....

Being in my seventies somehow sounds a lot older than being in my sixties. I'm sure I will get used to it. I do realise I am still in nappies compared to some here I have a couple of friends in their eighties still racing several times a year.

Happy Birthday!

Take my advice and "go French", then you can say you are soixante-dix and in fact can remain in your sixties for another ten years. Better still, when you get to 80, you are actually 'quatre vingt', or 4 x 20!!

Yes you are only a lad !! Happy birthday Chris
I suppose your Spanish trip won't happen for a while ? considering the major (serious) problem that is happening at this moment
Just when we have organized spending much more time down there in our dotage we have been hit with the water shortage ! On the other hand here in the UK we have completely the opposite with our premises constantly flooding !!!!!!

As one a few years ahead of you - you'll get used to it alright

Enjoy your meal out with friends - still one of the best ways to celebrate.

No problem Gordon, the water companies are already preparing us for a drought sometime this year - or so I read in a headline.

Chris,

It's an easy transition.

There is a point for most people, usually in the mid-twenties to very early 30's, where one's self-image is frozen and you stay that age (mentally) forever, no matter what.

It's all down to numbers. Nothing meaningful.

OK, a few things may become less meaningful or more meaningful than they were. And one's body may start to do things you had not expected. Or, sometimes, to not do them.

But, overall, one remains that "certain age" of one's younger years.

Even when that is demonstrably not the case as I came to understand a couple of days ago when I popped over to see a neighbour to see if he still had any spare roof tiles available from some building work a few years back, only to discover that he was about to go into hospital for a significant surgery event and was still waiting for a date for an MRI scan related to some strange events early last autumn that led him to give up driving.

I'll likely check with his wife tomorrow to see how Tuesday afternoon's surgery went and how his recovery from that is going. He's about 4 years older than I am but had a stroke about 16 years ago.

It's a bit too close to home for comfort. But hey, in my mind I'm still only 26. It's MY reality that counts in the woke world - right?

So I'm good for another 50 years so long as the body continues to function.

Today APRIL 3rd.
There is a report in the Daily Telegraph about a MAN in Canada who is going to have surgery, that will equip him both male and female reproductive organs.
Should this be successful, he will be the first person in history to be able to
achieve what many have been advised to do, and, "Go ... forth and multiply, on his own."

All sorts of interesting situations can be readily envisaged.
