50 Great Bathurst Quotes
With all the 50 year stuff at Bathurst fast approaching, I thought it time to start a list of great quotes from Bathurst over the years - either from competitors or commentators.
Would be great if we could get 50 before the race... See if you can remember these? 2:06.859 "That is insane" "These two do not like each other..." "I've been hit up the arse like you wouldn't believe..." "Young bloke. Cold tyres. ****d up" "The Dipper; it's a geological oddity!" "Is that a tent?" "What's an Elbow doing on a racetrack anyway?...." AP |

My favourite was in the early days of BBC coverage up here. First time we'd ever seen in car cameras. Anyway, Mazda hits the wall hard, taking a chunk out. The commentator is talking to the driver (Grice?) while showing the replay. "Was there anything wrong with the car at the time?"
"Yeah," came the reply, "It was totally out of control!" |

I thin the best quote ever at Bathurst was Jim Richards.
"Youre a bunch of a***h***s". |

That would be 3:30 here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UC3d...feature=relmfu. Supposedly KB reconsidered his stance after learning the intended recipient, Ron Wanless, was a boxer more than capable of returning serve.

How 'bout Doug Mulray's comment while co-commentating in 1982? KB had rolled the Camaro after blowing a tyre, and after stepping out of the upturned car, pointed to the blown tyre to show the cause of his flip. Uncle Doug commented: "KB pointing out something my father told me, "Never trust rubber." " |

Bathurst 1986, early in the race when Channel 7 cross to Dick Johnson on Racecam as he is right on the approach to the Dipper
Neil Crompton - "Good Morning Dick Johnson, how is everything going" DJ's instant reply - "mate i'm busier than a dog trying to bury a bone in a marble floor" |

How's the car Dick?
Mate it's such a dog, we should've tied it to a fence. Dick again, Bathurst 1983 |

"I want the whole field checked". Dirty Ambroses dummy spit after the
balaclava fiasco. "Wayne spun me". Dick in 1993, after Gardner somehow "spun" Dick while in front of him, and without any contact. "Welcome to Mt Constipation" a bloke 3 cubicles up in the McPhillamy Pk toilets one year. Not a problem in our camp " **** me, its Boris Said" Me. When he, Matt Neal & Paul Morris dropped by our tent. |

If we are going to include the early days
"Jees she's got balls" by certain D Type driver after being harried across the mountain by Mary Seed in the AC Bristol. (195something.) "Hang down your head Sir Malcolm< Hang down your head and cry, Came up on the mountain, backed by all that brass, You lost the Victa special, Landed on your arse" Chorus Hang down your head Si Malcolm Hang down your head and cry." Park Hotel Bathust circa early 60s after David MacKay lost the Victa backed Cooper on to of the mountain. |

I loved one back in the Group C days, when he was having a 2 lap convo with Mike Raymond, in which (amongst a number of things) lapped traffic got a mention. Dick described a driver of a slower car as having: "Teeth like an old pub piano, some black, some white, and some missing" . |
