Tvr Tuscan Championship
Has anyone been folowing the TVR Tuscan Championship this year? It has been a brilliant Championship so far with extremeley close racing as this year sees alot of young challengers! Rob Urquhart (21) Lee Caroline (23) and David Mason (24) Who are all stars of the future in the Sports car world! Keep and eye out!!

Haven't watched it much this year.. I used to follow Troy Dunlop's exploits as I sort of know him - well through a mutual friend (so actually I don't know him!).. I was hoping that he and Gugliemi (sp?) were going to have a 'battle royale' last year, but his big accident at Dono put paid to that... :-( A real shame. I think he would have liked to have gone on to something bigger and 'better', but as always sponsorship is a problem.. :-(
It is a good series however - as most single make ones inevitably are - close racing, with talent being the difference.. Excellent 'vehicle' for TVR to prove themselves, although they seem to have also done well with the 'other' Tuscans.. but I hope that they don't lose sight of the significance of their one-make series and how invaluable it has been to them in the past... EPS :-) |

TVR's have always been good.. but have suffered from a lack of quality drivers iver the last couple of seasons.. mind you it's been around for some time now!
Will it have a future?? |

I watched it at Combe when we were one of the support races and it rocked. Close racing, lots of action and easy to follow.
I was also looking forward to the later Ferrari challenge race that day, but it was so dull - about 8 cars lapping in similar times to the 1300 Spitfires that were on earlier, come on! |

I've been really impressed with Lee Caroline in the pickups for a couple of years now - looking forward to seeing how he does in a TVR

Yeah Lee Caroline is a top driver, I do think that he needs to calm down a little on his "coming through at all costs" over taking manouvers!! But he is good!

I have to say that I've started to think this year that the cars are looking a bit dated now. Don't get me wrong, I love the racing, and think they look great, just... could it be time for a redesign?

Is it not still Hawthornes ( Rod Barrett) who ran the car for JCW?

I noticed that Lee Caroline is down to drive with Colin Blower in an Ultima in this weekend's GT race at Rockingham.

I remember the days of 40 odd cars.
It just needs something to pick it up again. It's provided Campbell-Walter, Verdon-Roe, McKellar Jr, Jordan and a lot of other GT stars of nowadays. |

I am afraid that the Tuscans are going the same way as all one make series, although due to continued factory/sponsor support, they have managed to outlast most of the other series. Licence changes a few years ago, the advent of the GT series in its present guise, the downgrading of what was a headline race series into a support on the "packaged, sanitised, its 1 o' clock it must be F3" type of race meeting, has, I believe, taken away the thrill of this series. Dont get me wrong, this was THE one make series a few years ago, when qualification races were the order of the day & the likes of Fluxie & Gerry Marshall (complete with silk scarf blowing in the breeze) were the epitome of this series. The roots of the series were well entrenched and the branches were growing, but, sadly, a few years ago, for one reason or another, the numbers started to dwindle. One make series by their nature are manufacture-sponsored races that usually command large grids in their formative years, until the said manufacturer decides to sell its wares elsewhere. Tuscans are a different kettle of fish in the way that they brought the name of TVR to the forefront of sportscar racing. The number of their vehicles that you see on the roads today is due, I think, in no small way to the lure of the TVR name from this series. Remember you could no more buy a Tuscan (as in this series) to drive on the road, than you could a Lister from the GT series. Race series come & go but what a sad day it will be when the sight of these muscular brutes (the cars, not Fluxie!) have to be amalgamated into another load of cars who cannot muster sufficient numbers, just to muster a decent sized grid.

Hi Hamness, I'm sad to say that I have to agree with you. I saw the TVR's at Brands not too many weeks ago and thought they were all looking a little 'tired' and in need of an update. Without being over critical the presentation of many of the cars was well below those we saw a few years ago. I have fond memories of the Bobby Verdan-Roe, Gerry Marshall, Ian Flux days and have been a long time fan of the Tuscan series.
Something needs to be done to rejuvinate the series, maybe a new body shell? Is it my imagination but I seem to remember a few years ago there was plenty of paint swapping and door banging. That all seems to have disappeared from the races now? |

My first experience of tuscans was in the wet at snetterton as support on the willhire 24 and i was on the pitlane entry having messers marshall and co approaching me sideways.I had only been to 1 meeting before that and i was hooked by the TVR bug,i agree its looking a bit tired but what awesome cars they still are!!!!!!!
