It's hardly 'news' though is it.

V8SC will use this publicity to prod it's NZ fan-base, with the objective of drumming up enough support for another venue with ratepayers and taxpayers covering the cost.

None of our existing tracks have facilities suitable for the V8s. Except for Taupo and that's in the middle of no where.

So, if no NZ round, and given TV3s crap coverage this season. I fear that we are heading towards no coverage in NZ soon

Yep, I got to say TV3 has done it's best to kill off the fringe fan base that any round in NZ needs through the gate, to fill the stands.
Except for Bathurst and Hamilton theres no interest in watching a race the day after (after it's been in the news all day) and at Midnight.

I can't say I fault V8SC, with NZ's resource consent laws, it's basically impossible to get anything done in a timely or price friendly manner.

If you don't want to be competitive you lose out and good on V8SC to move on to brighter pastures.

Pukekohe needed a raft of upgrades to the circuit itself (run offs etc) and to the pit lane/paddock area to accommodate a fly-in (or more correctly, ship in for the first few years) category of racing.

Pretty much every other NZ track would be the same. Taupo would probably be OK as it has hosted AIGP but of course it is a long way from any accommodation - which is what killed it for V8's when it was looked at previously. Not enough local beds to accommodate the teams, let alone TV, officials, fans etc.

Im with you mate, let Cochrane go and plunder some other suckers, good riddance i reakon, our own home grown Supertourers can fill the gap nicely, they look the part, sound the part, and with drivers, like Murph, McConville, and loads more Aussie I suspect that will come over for the enduros, we dont need the fatcat's.

I just can't see the Supertourers filling the gap left by V8SA. I definitely agree that the ST will be seen as the new top tier of NZ motorsport to compete in, but I just can't see how you can compare a successful series which has been running for yonks to come which hasn't even held an event yet. I can understand the reasons behind V8SA pulling out, no track has the adequate facilities to host an event to the level which they require, and the track that is probably closest (Taupo) is one of the most boring tracks to watch racing at in New Zealand (IMO). Don't really understand the bashing of Cochrane because he hasn't really been left with much of an alternative.

The whole package.
The cars. They all run the same engine for starters....
The drivers. No top class Aussies.
The tracks, no Bathurst, Phillip Island, Adelaide etc.
No history, the V8s have a direct line back to the 60s with all those legends along the way.

The V8ST will have a couple of tracks, a hand full of rounds in spec cars (why do you think Tier 1 has fallen over?) a few 2nd rate Aussie drivers and will be run in winter.

I don't get your connection between spec cars and Tier 1 falling over.

Tier 1 hasn't fallen over yet, but it's not looking healthy. There are a raft of reasons for that too and it has a lot to do with the lads at TMC, the top NZV8 drivers leaving having had a guts full, too much shagging around with support classes, and more.....

But back to the topic. From reading a lot of posts on several threads, it seems to me that NZST will provide what a lot of people want to see. Big hairy loud V8's (a field of them will sound unreal), current Ford vs Holden models, the top NZ drivers that were in Tier 1 past season (they all have substantial followings and Murph still pulls a crowd), and fast close racing. Let's just see how Round One goes!

Murphy is the only household name in that series. out of all the drivers..why do you think his name is used so heavily to promote their series. "Win a ride with Murph"

sorry.. the new series isn't even in the same league as V8SC.

I don't know why you're apologising because I never compared the two series. I asked someone else to clarify why NZST wouldn't even come close to V8SC. No one in their right mind can compare an established off-shore series (with one round here) with a new local series that hasn't even had it's first meeting yet. But you do like a good stir don't you promax!

Of course that's why they use Murph's name, that's not hard to work out. But it's good marketing and it's working. And people will come to watch him and the ex-NZV8 drivers they have supported and now don't see at Tier 1 meetings.

It's easy.
Tier one meetings are generally quite boring. Why? All the class are full of cars that are the same. No variety and that makes for the kind of racing the average fan finds dull.
And in most cases the cars themselves are dull. Who gets excited about a Swift?!

btw full fields of cars draws crowds.. not so-called stars the biggest meets of the year are full of no named drivers... but draws crowds.. cause they have lot's of cars. odd that?

Why would I be offended? I asked him for clarification because I don't think they can be compared for reasons I've already stated.
