For possibly the only time in his F1 career to date, Latifi might not be slowest.

Good luck to him!
Don't Haas still have Louis Delatraz as a test/development/reserve/whatever driver? He's got a super licence too, anyone think he may have been a better choice? |

I thought the new super licence procedure was supposed to stop drivers like this. Clearly the least talented driver to appear in a long time.

He has a lot of testing mileage (7 test sessions since 2018) with Haas which along with his Formula V8 3.5 Championship win I guess is how he has a Superlicence.

Fittipaldi is the most logical choice. The 3 others are available at Abu Dhabi, we'll see who gets the seat there (if Romain doesn't return then and there) Technically, that was the Asian F3 2019-2020 winter series (December - February). Not too uncommon for young drivers to keep themselves busy over winter. Calderon, Hughes, Mazepin and Doohan were there too. Last edited by gert; 30 Nov 2020 at 13:24. |

Is this not one of the reasons - yet still gets knocked by some? |

It was in relation to Perez testing positive earlier in the season - where the question was asked 'what's the point in having a reserve driver [if you are going to appoint someone else]?'.

It's going to take Lewis quite a while to get over that disappointment. |

Although presumably Hulk or Aitken might now replace Russell if he goes to Merc.

I wish him the best of luck. Fourth member of the family to race in F1, must be a new record. Or five, if you count Emmo’s son in law Max Papis!

I'm not sure Ericsson was as bad as everyone made him out to be.
Was never going to be a WDC but he held his own against a few decent drivers. Solid peddler and definitely isn't in the Max Chilton conversations. |

He was a worthy F1 driver for sure. Very quick but perhaps not consistent enough.

Certainly Ericsson had quite a good junior record. FBMW UK and Japanese F3 champ and race winner in British F3 and GP2 ain't bad going. Decent driver, who didn't too bad against his team mates, until Leclerc came along and we know how good he is

I was at indycar at road america this year. Was watching from the kink for about 3 laps. Each lap, only one car had a noticeable audible lift. It wasn't marco andretti, or zach veach or anyone else. It was ericson. Of course, this doesn't definitively prove anything, but just an observation that stuck out to me when watching a recent "top driver in the world". |

Not sure why you are battling the top driver quotation thing round here. I think the majority, if not all, realize that F1 has some stonkingly great drivers, but also some others that aren’t “top 20”. As has always been the case some aren’t just there on merit - like any other series and any other period of time. I rarely see it elsewhere either. I just can’t get worked up about this because we could have been annoyed about this at any time over the last 100 years. |
