Very interesting indeed.
Am I right in remembering that Suzuki were off the pace here during the pre-season test? |

Channel 10 showed a very good interview today with Valentino Rossi by Darryl Beattie. One of the best I've seen. He had some very interesting things to say on -
Single Tyre - as he has been saying recently, he would prefer a single tyre manufacturer. Thinks it will improve the racing etc. 990 vs 800cc - he prefers the 990 but the change was made for safety reasons which is of paramount importance. The 800cc is definitely the bike they should be using. Electronics - he says now a days electronics make up as much as 50% of the bikes performance. Getting the engine mapping, traction control and engine braking right is now just as important as getting suspension preload, damping and spring rates right in order to get a good lap time. He thinks the electronics as they are now is necessary for safety and there are much fewer accidents and rider injuries now because of the TC. But he feels that they have gone as far as they need to with the electronics and to push it any further would start to spoil the show. Would possibly be in favour of a control ECU. Yamaha - this was interesting. He believes that Yamaha have made a mistake sticking with the inline four and that they definitely need a V4 to get back to being consistently competitive. Apparently he has been lobbying Yamaha heavily to change to a V4 but does not think it will happen as Yamaha brand recognition is based around the inline four. If they did decide to change it would take 4 to 5 years develop before it could be raced. His future - Beattie asked him if it would be possible to see him move to Ducati to finish his career after his contract with Yamaha expires at the end of 2008. He responded with a very definite YES. He says he would love to finish his career in an Italian team if it could be arranged. He seemed very keen on the idea. Rallying - he will be doing 2 rallies at the end of the season. (Monza and UK) and is still keen to get into rallying after he is finished in MotoGP. No mention of F1 anymore. His personality - Beattie mentioned that it would be a shame to lose him and his antics to rallying. He says he is pleased to have been able to use his popularity to increase the interest in bike racing, but there were Valentino Rossi's before he came along and there will be new Valentino Rossi's after he has gone. All in all a very interesting interview. He is a consummate professional when it comes to handling the press. |

I read an article today that said Rossi has thrown down the gauntlet to Yamaha to improve in 2008 or he will walk. Considering he's keen on a move to Ducati, Yamaha had better pull out something special next season.

well he is keen on a move to Ducati in the interview he done with Daryl Beatie, but he did say if it is possible, who would Ducati kick out in 2009 if Rossi did decide to move Stoner signed until 2010 and current Champ Melandri contracted for the next 2 years.
IMO if Yamaha didn't improve next year and it wasn't possible to go to Ducati i think he might try his hand at full-time Rally. |

Apparently Pedrobot just flipped the Honda doing a practice start after the morning warmup.

Boring race as usual, think i am gonna be rather more circumspect about watching GP these days, the racing this year has been very dull with only one or two exceptions.
Its rubbish when racing is ALL about tyres, and what I mean by that is not the winning, its the fact that guys will b right u there and just fall off a cliff near the end, just makes the racing very processional And well done FIM for making the bikes corner even faster, Stoner was pulling 330 clicks on the straight, what a bunch of utterly incompetent idiots they are! You ahve ruined the racing and the bike sare still just as fast, complete and utter morons! Well what do you expect, everything these days is run by accountants! |

You could tell the win in his home race meant an awful lot for Casey Stoner - somehow it was meant to be.

I missed Pedrosas 'practice start'. Is it on the net somewhere? I feel a bit sorry for Nicky. He wouldn't have finished on the podium I think, but it would have been nice to see him fight for it! The fight for second place in the 250cc race was great, but the best race of the weekend was (like ussual) the 125 race. It is a shame that in 125 there is only one tyre manufacturer, otherwise this would have been such a great class. |

Stoner did it with utter ease. Class of the field for sure, and it was nice to see Capirossi battle through to help with a Ducati 1-2. Not a bad way to wrap up the manufacturer's battle as well.

125cc had regularly more than one tyre make last in 2003. But Bridgestone wasn't very good on dry weather tyres that year. They had some good riders, career-125 Masao Azuma, plus upcoming talents Kallio (for half a season) and Bautista IIRC. But mostly without good results, except wet Phillip Island race where Ajo Motorsport got 1-2 with Ballerini (who replaced Kallio after Mika moved to KTM mid-season) and Azuma. Bautista was 4th and his team-mate Harms 10th.

Well done to Casey. The race was marginal, but certainly better than some of the others that we've seen this year. At least we got some great footage of the boys sliding those bikes around. And Phillip Island is just awesome.

Rolled off the throttle a little, recovered then into it again!! One Stoner segment was showing near 20,000rpm and 333 km as he topped the rise at the end of the straight! That's quick! Mike |
