1987 Australian Touring Car Championship - Round 3 at Lakeside

Hi guys,

I am interested in some information from this round. Would anyone have or know of an entry list for the round? Of particular interest is Alf Grant's Commodore, did it run in the same livery and number (#27) as in late-1986?

What a race also, Johnson storms to the lead only to blow up, the BMWs come through mauling the opposition down at the end... even the Commodore's were in with a shout with Brocky on the front row.

Alf's Commodore was #23 at Lakeside with it's Dulux Autocolour scheme (black with red front & yellow rear), he also ran the Amaroo & Oran Park rounds with #23.

Was that the round where Gary Scott wrote off #05 in testing or practice, so Brock had to run the second car #6 and put it on the front row?

That's the one. 05 was a VL & 6 was a VK.

They were both VK's at Lakeside.

The 1987 year books showed pictures of the written-off 05 VK.

Yeah didn't see a Brock VL till Surfers I think. Unless of course, you don't count the one sold to Moffat to generate cash flow after he GM bust up.

Many thanks for that

Dulux had their brand on alot of cars around that time didn't they. The Gulson's 635 (and previously their Alfa), the Ralliart Starion, the Sax/Lorimer M3 and the Grant Commodore

This car sold to Craig Kinmonth in late-88 as well wasn't it?

As an aside, how did the points system work in 1987? Was it similiar to the previous years (ie... more points for the lower class), or was it like 1988, where they just paid points to the top 10 cars irrespective of class?

Points awarded to first 10 cars; plus top 6 cars in each class (and there was only two classes - over and under 2500cc) also received points.

Many thanks for the info guys, especially the points info there chavez

From what i can work out, the points seemed to go 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1 for outright, and 9-6-4-3-2-1 for class positions

It seems to work out for all rounds..except the last one, where George Fury seemingly earns 28pts for finishing second in the race (but first in class) .... whereas the maximum score seemed to be only 29...

Any ideas guys?

The '83-87 points allocation seems overly complex, compared to the rather simple employed from 1969-1982....

Very true, everyone had the chance to win that year, even the Commodores
