OK,OK,I give in,at least it stirred up some action,I,ll admit to the ownership of ,1] 2 MK1 2doorGT Cortinas,2] 1600e,with a pretty quick Hall&Fowler engine,it would beat an LC no problem.3]Mk 1 1300gt[thats what it said on the Bootlid]EscortI,ve just had the missfortune of having to drive through Downham Market in Norfolk, and loe and behold,on a car lot there stood a rather nice MK3 Zodiac.

Al,
Is a 5.7 engine a small block? Also as with all the cars it had undergone a severe weight loss programme. |

Al there have been an awful lot of FFord races run, a fair head start!
Not many Mk3 Capris out here at all, only private imports. They do look good though |

It was a bit of a coincidence that this kicked off but those of us "of an age" will recall a publication known as "Hot Car" magazine. The number of Fords in there far outstrripped any other mark either as engine supply to a special or as the donor car with a big for small engine swap. I guess the only engine to outgun any Ford product in the UK would have been the Rover V8 at the time! That said look at the specialists that used Ford engines in their road cars. TVR, AC (what about the Ruddspeed conversion?) and of course the Cobra and the Sunbeam Tiger but ultimately we got the De Tomaso Pantera. |

You know what, when I lived in Essex in the early 1990s... and drove a lowered 2.8i on the road... I was stopped by the police every 2-3 weeks ! It wasn't that they wanted a close-up look at Cologne's best either. The cops must have had some briefing about the stereotypical characters that drove Capris. It was a damn nuisance though. |

I wonder if a new Ford entered BTCC and woon if the result would add to their tally or go under Mazda or Volvo (depending on engine) |

NASCAR statistics don't tell the real story as "Chevy" is only listed if the body ran as a Chevy? All the GM runners would have actually had Chevy engines but only the odd Mercury would have had a Ford engine and not be listed as "Ford"? It's all the local US oval tracks, both "sanctioned" and "outlaw" that would put the small block Chevy into first place in the world?

Oddly enough I was thinking today, what other cars ran Ford or Chevy engines and the T70 came to mind, followed by the Chevron. Of course I think I'd be correct in saying that the former with the Chevy engine had less success than the latter with Ford power based on classes.
The F5000 example is a good one though, an almost Chevy dominated class, with a few GAA powered interlopers. This has become good thread. |

I think Ford Rules the roost in the UK, certainly no one can touch them for tin top success, they won virtually every race from 63-70 |
