If Verstappen wasn't to blame who was? That was so nearly a massive shunt, he should be severely penalised not reprimanded. On a different level Alpine punching way above their weight again with Alonso once again showing strong. Fred's performance for the French underdogs this year has been startling.

No one is necessarily to blame. For a car to snap like that because of wheel spin may be due to a glitch with the throttle, which wouldn't be Verstappen's fault. F1 cars use electronic fly-by-wire throttles and like other electronic devices they can glitch.

I will never understand the three hour rule. Brought in to prevent another 2011 Canadian GP. It is like the rule that to stop under-18s driving to prevent another Max Verstappen. Yes, I know there are concerns about lack of light, but surely that can be under the discretion of the race director than automatically stopping after three hours every time. What was the point of not racing the last 14 laps in Monaco, for example?

And, for the second year running, Max Verstappen wins the championship based on the wording of the rulebook (something about the word 'resumption' meaning they get full points). Not a particularly satisfying way to win it, with Johnny Herbert telling him he is champion in an interview and him still not really believing it, but obviously he would have won it next race anyway, and that is a 100% fully-deserved title which absolutely cements his name among the greats of Formula 1 history.

I dont see that.. There are still 4 races left and you would have rocks in your head if you think hes not going to increase his lead over the rest of the year. Although he cant be beaten, he isnt "official" wdc til end of last race, By then he will be miles in front and it wont matter how many points he got today. Im sure that by years end you could remove everyones points for this race as if it didnt start, and max would still be wdc.

Its not like WDC is only 1 race and he won that race on a technicality. You could as easily say he only won coz charles fell off.
You cant pick one moment and say "they only won coz of that". Its performance all year. that wins WDC, and Max/rbr have been the class act all year.

Why did you only highlight the start of my comment and not the bit when I said that he would have won at the next race anyway and absolutely deserved it? It wasn't sour grapes, I just thought it was interesting that nobody knew at the end of the race if he had won because of the wording of the rulebook, and there was nothing wrong with how the rules were applied today at all. I personally don't think Leclerc should have been penalised for cutting the chicane, but he should have been for squeezing Perez at the final corner so it evens out in the end.

That was not a prescriptive comment, but rather a descriptive comment related to how someone like Stroll or Tsunoda had been considered.



Unsafe releases and this kind of incidents are not really comparable, but that was not what I was commenting on. Sorry if that was unclear.

And a little over the top on great in history. We need to see a little more with stronger competition. I don’t see that, perhaps another title where this doesn’t happen:
