Pre-war racing: books/sites

I was looking through the pre-war images on Franco Varani's site(especially the late 30s pics), and it occurred to me how little i know about Grand Prix racing from this period in comparison to the 1950-2001 Championship Era.

Can anyone recommend some books or websites that would be an interesting read for me?

A very good book, apart from the Sheldon series, is William Court's "Power and Glory" (Vol. 1). It covers the years from the beginnings up to 1951 and is a very enjoyable read. It's not very detailed, and lacks accuracy here and there, but it makes up for that in that it covers almost every imaginable aspect of the sport, and gives you a perfect overview on the subject within approx. 300 pages. It also contains lots of period pictures!
