The Model Car Thread (thread closed)

i was just curious...how many of you collect model cars and what do you have in your collections? i collect almost exclusively 1/43 scale and between my diecast and kits (which i build, collect, and sell) i have over 200 and these include any and all eras f1, cart, sports prototype, nascar, can-am.....

I've got various 1/43 models (diecast), mostly super tourers, DTM, WRC and Group B. Also got a few 1/24 models built from Tamiya kits (WRC) and some scalextric (do they count).

When I've got a few spare pennies I might get a few 1/43 resin kits of the Group B cars. (that'll be sometime never then - there's always something more important that needs money spending on it)

I collect 1/43s - I'd run out of room too quickly if I collected bigger models! Used to collect American V8s and Jags, but have concentated on Sportscars, especially Le Mans entries, in recent years.

1/43 for me, and I far prefer kits to diecasts. If I want to make something just a little more accurate, I don't have to worry about devaluing a "mint and boxed" collectible.

As for what I collect? Mainly classic fifties sports prototypes, but I'll build anything that comes my way from 1899 to 1980 (and the occasional more recent one. There's a Provence Moulage 2002 Bentley EXP Speed 8 on my Christmas workbench).

1/43rd again, all but 2 of the 400 plus diecasts, built kits and kits (ratio of built to waiting to be built is appallingly low...) are Le Mans subjects. Started out collecting Le Mans winners and branched out to interesting Le Mans subjects, which is a whole mass of stuff.

I'm mainly a 1/20th Tamiya F1 enthusiast, and like above - I get the models when they come out but can take AGES to finish them.

The trouble with the kits is the price, they're really expensive (unless you know somewhere I can pick them up cheaper). Kits seem to be £30+ for a touring sized car, whereas you can get mint diecast models for roughly a fiver each if you hunt about.

I'll definitely be getting a few more 1/43 kits though, some of the more exotic machinery is only available as kits.

At the moment i'm building the Tamiya Nissan R390 GT1. Its the first kit i've made and it looks ok, its not the very first i have built though because i used to build a lot of WW2 planes. I also have a ton of die cast models. The next kit i want to have a go at is the Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI by Tamiya but i can't find the kit anywhere! I have been to all my local shops and searched the internet but it seems impossible to find, or i'm just not looking in the right places!

I collect mainly 1/43 kits and diecast's, which tend to be what ever takes my fancy at the time. Normally go for what is a nice loking car which tend to be either sportcars (Le Mans) or rally cars, I don't buy standard raod cars.

Have got a few 1/24 kits waiting to be built or in the process of being built, the one I need to get on and build is a Metro 6R4, and still waiting for decals for Johny Milner's BRC Toyota - if anybody knows of any?

I have now finished the Nissan R390 and about to start building a Jag XJR-9LM. I gave the Nissan to my dad for New years day, he worked for TWR when they built the Nissans, now i come to think of it he did the Jags too
