Hope you can do it.

I hope that you can achieve that Joss. Incidentally, your not too far away from two of the older gentlemen of Saloon cars are you? Jeff Ward, and Terry McNally both hail from your area I seem to recall? Of course I am talking a long time ago.

Unfourtunately I don't recall either, but I had a big break in the Sport.
I raced from 1986 to the end of 90 in a Sunbeam Lotus Super Road Saloons, Lotus Challenge and in Sports & Saloons in varying states of Mods/Slick 50 3.9 Rover SDI/Pug 205 1.9 in Prod Saloons/Astra 16v in Prod Saloons then Modprods, then a 12 year gap as the recession before last took me down :'0)
Started back in 2002 when I started my business, PRO-Driver, with the car I had most enjoyed to race those years before, but had abandoned back then, due to its terrible relalabilty problems.
Had heard of Seaman Motorsport and there quick, big cc reliable motors, made a call, and here we are now, 9 seasons later, still together working on getting my Hot Hatch even Hotter

Jeff Ward/Terry McNally

Hi Joss, well, they were what you might call pretty damn quick, when it comes to handling saloon cars. Lap record holders both, at more than one circuit, and pioneers in the tin-top racing area of the game. I can remember who my peers were, even at my age. Lawrie Hickman, exciting driver, John Young and Chris Craft, specialists in out and out race driving. Roger Williamson, and Gerry Marshall, drivers that taught me my craft, names that will never be forgotten in the sport.

I have been asked by committee member to post that if anyone is thinking of entering this event that the invitation class requirements will be relaxed so if you have a car that doesnt quite fit in with the regulations but you still fancy a run out in this value for money interesting event please contact Andy Johnson andy.johnson@classictouringcars.com and discuss it with him, no club memberships will be required.

Please try to support one of the smaller players putting on our own event as without the smaller clubs the big clubs will end up with the monopoly and we all know where that leads.

Slight revision to the timetable, there is a now a Pre'93 Saloons race on the Saturday and a 2nd on the Sunday instead of both on the Sunday, this will give more room for guys to enter an extra pair of races for just £100, got to be some sort of bargain that at just £50 a race so if you are interested please contact Andy above even if you car doesn't quite conform with the regs (including some of you Jag owners)!

Al, thanks for the timetable, it looks like a great event, which I'm looking forward to.

I've never been to Mallory before and would appreciate guidance on the best locations to take photos - closer to the track the better, to suit an amateur photographer with amateur camera.

Malcolm, Mallory is great for amateur photography as you can get real close to the track without debris fencing being in the way. The circuit is so small you can change positions easily and not miss any action. I reckon the closest you can get is the exit of the hairpin or the inside of Devils Elbow, hell, you can nearly lean over and touch the cars

I'll be there too so come and say Hi

Circuit map

Almost anywhere is the answer depending on what you mean by an amateur camera. If it's a DSLR with a kit lens you would probably be confined to interesting 'group' shots for most of Gerards and the recently retreated banking along the Stebbe straight but on a good weather day such shots can be very pleasant anyway. If you have something like a 200mm (35mm equivalent) lens (DSLR again) then you should be able to get some adequate 'car portrait' shots at Gerards, etc., as well.

You can walk all the way around the circuit these days and it's quite compact and, with the exception of a brief section through the buildings at Shaw's Hairpin, you are really never out of sight of the track.

On a sunny day, if you want the sun behind you, start at Shaws on the South side next to the Paddock Entrance and then end the day at some point around Gerards.

The John Cooper Esses can be very good but from the outside you will be facing into the sun (if any) most of the afternoon in mid summer. However if you cross the bridge into the Paddock you can access the inside of the Esses - quite a popular location. Whilst the paddock area can offer quite good track views for the teams the photo opportunities are a little more restricted by building and safety fencing. The second best location for shots from the interior is probably the area opposite Edwina's towards the end of the Stebbe Straight.

The 'chicanes' (Bus Stop, Charlies/Stapletons and Edwinas) are not used for Car circuit racing. The North side of Shaw's is a run off area with no 'head on' views and the trackside at that point has debris fencing so it's a little more restricted for photography as is the section between Edwina's and the John Cooper Esses. But for the most part the south side allows close enough access that a kit lens would be as much as you would need.

How long it will stay like that is anyone's guess but enjoy it while you can.

You are literally spoilt for choice Malcolm its a great veiwing circuit. You can watch from the infield go down to the Esses and see some great action or go accross the bridge and up on the hill and see most of the circuit or walk round to the hairpin and watch the action there, you won't be disappointed.

I'd forgotten about the bikes Al. Should keep the circuit staff busy changing the configuration AND offer some interesting variations on the shots.

I have watched some bike test afternoons in the past - Edwina's looks interesting from the inside and of course the Hairpin section is good too.
