Grand Prix weekend

Interesting to get a 'begging' email for the Masters event @ Donington for the GP weekend, I'm 'Clerking' the 360 event @ Snetterton on the Saturday, it wasn't that many years ago when the calendar was clear apart from the 'big event' was it?

Once again a clash of events resulting in the thin orange line being drawn a little thinner over the GP weekend.

I remember the 750 were at Cadwell for the first few years I was a marshal, as I always went up for that one.

Most week-ends, if we're honest.

Indeed; however most weekends there aren't 422 volunteers (+ all the specialist roles) from across the country (and the rest of the world!) on duty at one event.

Croft BTCC - Goodwood FOS - London FE - A friend's daughter's wedding

Fitting life around motorsport is becoming more and more difficult, can't these people give us a break and just let us get on with doing what we love most.....

1 wedding per year = 20 days marshalling. A small sacrifice, particularly as I'm not driving ....

So, can I get the priest to sign my license next time I'm at a wedding?

If you're not at the BGP that weekend, the other meetings provide an opportunity to get experience, possibly doing things you wouldn't normally do. Couple of years ago I ended up on the fire truck at Brands on a GP weekend, there were various expereinced marshals getting to act as IOs and Post Chiefs and quite a few trainees getting a lot of hands on experience.

Indeed, the last time I did a meeting on GP weekend I (a moderately experienced trainee) got to act as Post Chief, Flag Marshals, IO and Incident team all at once. Though in the afternoon a guy on his taster day turned up so I promoted him to IO and half the Incident Team. We learned quite a bit (not just not to volunteer for meetings on GP weekend ).

Of course. You'd need a bishop for an upgrade.

I will be there, but unfortunately will not be able to get trackside, as photographer bibs are not for mere mortals, so please make allowances if some aged journo wants to take your picture.

I look forward to seeing some of you scattered around the place over the weekend.

Let's hope the rain holds off, and nobody runs away with it so we get some decent action.

Bauble.
