Ferrari complaining about other cars again
I see where Ferrari are complaining about McLaren and Red Bull wings flexing again.
http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/2...-mclaren-wing/ McLaren appear to be unaware of any problem judging by Martin Whitmarsh's reply http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/103022 Why is it that Ferrari is always the one complaining rather than go out and build a faster car? |

Or maybe they have a reason to believe that something a bit odd is going on? But it may be that they are just Ferrari.
Its about 2000 Euros, at present. How much would it be worth to get a couple of tenths knocked off a rivals cars performance? 2m Euros? And if a lot of teams protest, maybe 10m Euros. The FIA would be thankful for that! So why not make it more likely that there will be more protests. How could the FIA do that? hmmm...... |

totally. one has to almost admire the Machiavellian nature of Ferrari's timing with this. 6 races left, all flyaways, in a 2 month period and their title competitors will spend the weekend defending themselves from accusations of cheating.
whatever it takes to win titles. |

I wouldn't expect any other way, until they have it firmly on their hands, they will cry their hearts out.

If they were breaking the rules, then they were breaking the rules.

Except the rules stated that the flexibility of the front wing was tested in a specific way, and they all passed that. So from a legal perspective, no rules were broken - and as Adrian Newey said, there is no such thing as "spirit of the regulations".

So I guess when Ferrari had their wings clipped (pun intended) in the past, mirror modifications, wheel covers and the like protested, they made the protests themselves?
Just wondering since it is suggested that they are the ONLY team who ever protests another team's advantage... ...ask Adrian Newey who did the majority of the Red Bull protesting last year... |

Well, Red Bull were getting away with it for ages, I think it was their 2010 car which had the ridiculous amount of front wing flex, the FIA did nothing about it in that year. Actually, they may have introduced the tests in that year, can't remember, however the Red Bull car certainly had the same front wing almost dragging on the ground for the whole season.

It is completely disingenuous to suggest there is no such thing as a "spirit of the regulations". Of course there is. The regulation prohibits flexible wings for a reason, the test was obviously not refined enough to dissuade some very clever people from cheating. That's the game they're in, that's what they are paid for. Now they've been outed so we move on the the next "development". |

Yep, they never seemed to be able to work out how they got the wing to flex so much it seems. I know they kept on "upping" the load that was tested, but it kept on passing. Strange really, the Ferrari had a similar flexing issue in or around 2006 I seem to recall, however I believe the FIA had a word and it was stamped out within a few races. It was to do with an upper section of the front wing effectively pivoting. I recall them having to change the pivot so that it didn't "turn" in effect when at speed.

There is no such thing as a front wing, currently used in F1, that doesn't flex. Not even HRT can claim that for their efforts.

At the Korean GP, Ferrari are considering mulling over the feasibility of claiming that Red Bull and McLaren are "In League with The Devil!"
This isn't covered by any FIA regulations. So therefore, due to a vague interpretation of some medieval racing rules, there will be a short trial followed by summary execution of all relevant team members. Coffee and biscuits will be available, and please remember that F1 IS a dangerous sport. |
