Exactly because cars are so reliable now that is why things will be fine. DPI had 7 cars at Daytona, 5 of them were on the same lap after 24 hours. GTLM had 6 cars at Daytona 5 of them were less than 2 laps apart after 24 hours. We almost don't need a class to be over 10 cars anymore.

The only race where I am worried about grid size the rest of this year is V.I.R. An all GT race at that big track. Might look empty with a 16 or 17 car grid. I know its sacralege for a GT fan like me to say this, but may not be the worst thing to bring LMP3 into V.I.R. when the schedule revision comes out this week. But that would be for this year only and because they are probably not a threat to beat the GTLM cars for the overall win after 2 hours and 40 minutes of racing.

That's one thing that has helped, reliability. And the fact we have so many constructors willing to supply. Otherwise it would be in worse shape. And thanks to the rules, it's close competition and you can have some lesser lights upsetting the odds. I don't think we will get the numbers we once had, but we should have enough to keep things going

I really think it will be tough to get any more entries outside the big events. But they can sort it. Maybe need to make sure the classes have a quota of cars. And I see no problem having other classes to boost numbers at places where there's unlikely to be enough numbers like VIR. But with an uncertain future who knows? It needs to be carefully managed

They just announced Detroit but more is a coming no doubt. Moving LMP2 off is the more interesting bit. Maybe they get moved to Long Beach since they are going to Laguna Seca already in the same California swing in September.

Does not feel like GTLM is being added to the field. Its more like Corvette is coming to make a special guest appearance. Maybe they can remove any BoP they have for that race only. Let em run to their fullest capabilities.

Does anybody know about any of the full season GTD entrants who will consider skipping the Sprint Cup points only races? Detori and CTMP I think are currently the two. I have not.

I think the last couple years only a few have skipped it. Think Heart of Racing (think so but maybe was another smaller team) and Pfaff have in the past, Pfaff would make sense to give the crew extended time to quarantine/test to see family again. But it has been a couple years so memory is hazy.

Is GRT/Grasser full season or enduros only? Could see them skip. think everyone else is likely running but honestly cost savings and potential with the walls for damage I would not be surprised to see only those going for Sprint points show up

It lives, the Ave-Riley LMP3 project lives in SVRA.

Course Tony Ave owns SVRA and TransAm I believe.

The spring is a longer "off season" for north american sportscars than the winter is. Next thing is SRO America in early May, IMSA has mid ohio but it does not count for me since GTLM is not even in it.

Sorry Canada, IMSA not going to Canada again in 2021. I should have seen it coming when Porsche rescheduled Mosport to COTA with SRO earlier in the week I guess.

Back to back events at Watkins Glen, yup back to back weekends of IMSA racing at the Glen after they lost to Road Atlanta last year.

Sounds like most everyone will be running those weekends with WeatherTech (everyone), Pilot Challenge, Prototype Challenge running the replacement weekend on July 2-3.

The 6 Hours weekend will include WeatherTech, Pilot Challenge, Lamborghini and Porsche Supercup doubleheaders.

Why? It's not even a good track for the Cup guys. Nevermind that no one actually runs the track, they need to bring a couple walls in tight and stop that 2-3 cars away from the curbing nonsense

Short course works for stockcars. Gives them 3 good passing opportunities per lap. Another that, keep the boot!!

Simple in my mind, so they don't run the same track in back to back weeks. Regardless I saw nothing in the S365 article at least suggesting the track format for the Glen 240.

Weekend used in the general term to refer to an event. If you'd like to be pedantic bring it up with IMSA who also called it the race weekend and used the wrong dates of July 2-3 on the releases. The race airs on the Saturday after running on Friday.

Magnussen takes pole at Detroit. His first in IMSA competition, and it comes on a track that is new to him

Interesting to see how fast the P2 cars are around there. Last year the top ELMS pole time was a 1:28, so indeed the cars are slower this year
