To keep in line with BMW policy, the front end will consist entirely of radiator grill.

BMW Motorsport has recently announced a merger with BMW M from 1 April.
Whether this will have much impact on the UK activities remains to be seen. What has happened is that BMW has confirmed that it's works entries this year will be in a minimal M8GTE IMSA capacity, alongside development of the M4GTE to pair up with the M2CS and M4GT.

Scope for WSR to be an M3-badged entry?

Livery along the lines of:

Both Ciceley and WSR have been testing with the normal 3-series front end. Seems like a bit of a wasted effort if they are going to change to M3 styling.

BMW Motorsport released a teaser. You can see it still has the same front end, and black base again.

I didn't think racing liveries could get any less imaginative than some of the f1 liveries this year.....then WSR revealed theirs.

It's a little 'empty'. I think I preferred last year's. Could be worse though.

I sometimes think that people expect far too much when it comes to liveries. It is, or should be, done to represent the sponsors of the car, and I would say that in this case they have done so pretty well. the colouring of the flashes bringing BMW immediately to mind, and BMW features large on both sides of the car.

So, in this case I don't think that anyone viewing the car won't miss the connection that these BMWs are sponsored by a franchise of BMW, although they may not necessarily appreciate that it is BMW UK rather than the parent company, but that is not an important detail that one needs to worry about in my opinion.

Very corporate looking and no M3 snout. So what's the next thing everyone's going to overanalyse and fall out over?

I think it's going to be the BTC Civic liveries.

I think the livery is fine. I'm sure it reflects the BMW brand well. It works well, like it did last year

Well done BMW for getting more involved, WSR deserve all the backing they can get from them

I quite like the minimal amount of colour with the black base. I think more colour looks better on white. All a matter of taste though.

Liveries have to showcase the sponsors logos first and look good second? I really like the BMW.

The two aren't unconnected though. Look at Jagermeister for example. They don't even want to be associated with motorsport anymore, but their orange livery is still absolutely iconic.

Martini on Lancia's is a similar situation. Or Gulf on a whole range of cars over the years. There are very few sponsors I remember from the BTCC over the years. RAC and Halfords are two of them because of how distinctive their cars are/were. Going back further, Nescafe 37 and Rapid Fit also meet that criteria.

I wonder though if those liveries are remembered because their colourways were different to the majority - or because success breeds coverage?

As an example - the 2016 cherry-red Eurotech Civics were as good a livery (IMO) as the Nescafe or RapidFit cars. Likewise the 2012 Coffeedrops Vectra or the 2008 Holiday Inn SEATs. However - they are easily forgotten because the amount of coverage those cars receive(d) was minimal compared to the examples you list.

Would those classic one sponsor liveries happen now? With BTCC teams struggling for sponsorship, they probably have to have a few 'main' sponsors and have to accommodate each one accordingly, hence why some cars are sticker bombs.
