While the big curves are great, there isn't much in the way of overtaking on this circuit at all especially at 7km in length.
First thing to do is change the direction (that's a shock coming from me ) The chicane now forms T1 and is a clear overtaking point. The pits remain on the outside of the circuit, but actual rejoin before the chicane. Now just tighten up a few corners, for overtaking but not too many as to spoil the flow |

I'd say that either of these would make a much more challenging track

i believe that the second will have a better flow on to the start/finish straight
but the first one provides a last ditch overtaking chance most circuits i can think of have the style of the second option |

That is a great track Mattt. If I'm correct, it's the 1st figure-of-eight track you've posted here, isn't it.

The crossover idea with the two pitlanes linked to the same paddock is very nice. The full circuit itself looks very modern. The track also benefits from the many multi-apex corners. It's far more difficult to draw these by hand than with a curve tool, so your use of that surely must have helped. Still, I wonder if this track could provide more exciting racing than, say, Barcelona. I'm not sure what makes me expect that, though.
And the green short circuit appears a bit pointless, because it's so short. Aside from that, I'm positively impressed. Thanks for posting. |

Mattt,
7 kilometer is the maximum length for an F1 circuit. There are no real F' tracks this long. I guess you should shorten them just a bit. A 7 kilometer long track should have a lot of spectator stands because it would host few-lap-races due to its length. and few-lap-races would not be that attractive to spectators, since they would see the cars less times. bio |

Actually, Bio, Spa-Francorchamps (currently 4.35 miles) is right at 7km.

Sure, you're right, but, you see, there is only one such example. And if there is only one in 18, that's rather called an exception, I'd say

It might be the exeption, but it is the best circuit of them all! I've been there, (though not on an F1-race, but for the LMS and the FIA-GT's) and it is fantastic. Even when it has all the objective measures against it: the weather can be horrible, ticketprices are pretty high, you have to wait long until the cars come round again, you are mostly sitting or standing in the mud... But it has an atmosphere that is unbelieveble, and several places where you have a beautifull view of the most challenging and exiting corners you have ever seen. And that all in a beautifull landscape. Oh, and offcourse the beers are the best in the world, even when tapped in plastic.

werner,
"It is recommended that the length of any new circuits should not exceed 7 km." Source: FIA Formula One Regulations, "Procedures of Recognition of Motor Racing Circuits" available here: http://217.204.13.141/sport/Regulations/f1regs.html True, it's only a "recommendation" - and only for new tracks - but, knowing Bernie, it can be taken as the strictest regulation (Plus: I never said Spa wasn't a great venue ) bio |

The reason 7km comes up is that elsewhere in the regulations it says circuits of over 7km should have a second pace car/pace car station. Le Mans has three pace cars deployed from three different points. I can only imagine how ridiculous a pace car period on the Nordschleife would be.
