Lots of pre-race press and events ramping up in Toronto. This morning's PR is a five-year deal with Coca-Cola:

http://www.hondaindytoronto.com/more...p-through-2021

Previously announced: sponsorship deals or partnerships with Piloti, Tim Horton's, and Metrolinx/GO Transit. Lots happening.

Would be nice to see him in a fulltime third car next season. I know that Schmidt plans to have third car with Servia for Toronto and Sonoma

The paddock area for the IndyCars has now been moved indoors to the convention centre to be on the same side of the track as the pit lane. The paddock area for the Canadian Nascar and Canadian Porsche GT3 Cup cars is outdoors where the area for vendors ("Thunder Alley" on the map) had been in recent years, while the vendor area will be where the IndyCar paddock had been.

Thank you.

Might have some more details after my "boss" for the weekend takes a first look at the fencing and photo hole locations this week. I need to get down there and see how this pit lane is actually going to work. Last time I was at the Exhibition grounds I could not for the life of me figure out where they are going to put it. There are all kinds of raised stairs, fire hydrants and other impediments along that side of the Enercare Centre(!).

Also of note: the famous hotel that necessitated the move of the pit lane is *still* not open. Note: the initial plan was that it would be available for the Pan Am Games - last summer.

I wonder if Mercedes will hire him to drive an AMG GT at the Pirelli World Challenge or IMSA Championship.

Guys, unless you cut down the sidepods and front wings as well, not just the rear end, the cars are going to look unbalanced, and drive like it too.

The DW12 has a wedge-like overall profile, which is kind of the essence of winged, open-wheel cars, and has been since the Lotus 49, at least.

I would prefer a lower, narrower nose (more vicious and trim in appearance), and having the roll hoop up there on its own, without all the extra bodywork up top. That being said, I can live with what we've got.

Well, given IndyCar’s long history of questionable decisions, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but still this is a move that will rub a portion of the fan base the wrong way and for good reason. It’s also hard to sell a vision for the future of the sport when someone who has done so much damage in the past holds such an important position…

It doesn't sit easy but according to Mark Miles, "This has no effect on management, policies or strategies."

Hopefully, this is just a bit of window dressing, designed to keep the Hulman George presence on the board, after all Mari Hulman George is 81.

Indeed he was but the appointment was only made public on Sunday, when Tony George was introduced, before giving the command to start engines for the NASCAR Crown Royal 400. This is a race he helped bring to the IMS, back in 1994.

I'd like to see him in a full time seat. He was dead fast when he guested in Indy Lights in Toronto last year - got punted in both races unfortunately, but I think he was leading both(?).

He made some comment about how nice it was to be back in a fast car [editorial note: as compared with Formula E], which was amusing.

I hope he does a few Indycar races in the lead up to it at least. He's not a guy that seems to have large amount of backing to call upon. He won in both Nationwide and Trucks before he quickly ran out of support.

I still think he's dogged by the Singapore 2009 GP and the refusal of the FIA to allow him to race in the F3 event at Pau can't have helped.

The prudish Europeans care about this stuff but I don't think the Americans care what he did outside of their universe. Piquet just suffers from Adam Carroll syndrome or even the late Justin Wilson and the late Dan Wheldon syndrome. Obviously winning guys who just struggled to get the sponsorship stars to align to win rides that befit their talents.

Wilson and Wheldon were both successful drivers who struggled to find backing for prolonged periods despite having winning records. In America, Piquet is of that type.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but this was news to me. Buried in this Sports Illustrated article is mention that the series has been in discussions with Surfers Paradise(!).

http://www.si.com/racing/2016/07/17/...simon-pagenaud

It starts off:

"IndyCar has been in discussions with a promoter group that is trying to bring back America’s premier open-wheel series back to Surfers Paradise, Australia, for several months."

The idea is a February date with V8 Supercars supporting, possibly in 2018.
