Maserati Mc12 Monza testing PHOTOS
HI!
This morning, and for 3 days, on Monza track there is the Maserati Mc 12, I took these photos for you... The car is very good, It did stint of 6-7 laps and pause of 10 minutes but all without problems During decelleration the car sound is strange(like formula 1) I don't know the times but I saw Mika Salo in the car |

Was there anything else out there at the time?
It does look good. Perhaps they are going to try some endurance runs today and tomorrow? |

Do anyone know how much of the Maserati Mc 12 is based on the Ferrari Enzo? Is it just the engine?

Hmm, interesting. Comparitive Monza times from 2004:
Monza FIA GT Pole - 1:43.509, Ferrari 550 Fastest Lap of the Race - 1:44.708, Saleen S7R Monza LMES GTS Pole - 1:46.261, Saleen S7R Fastest Lap of the Race - 1.48.680, Saleen S7R So it's definitely on the pace of the ACO spec cars and reasonably there with the FIA GT cars. If only we knew a bit more info. |

Remember though, no LMES cars ran qualifiers this year which would account for at least 2 seconds.
At Paul Ricard the MC12 ran on the pace of the other GTS cars, but ran considerably quicker when they and the media left. BTW the ACO/FIA are meeting next Tuesday to thrash out a deal for unified GTS/GT regs which has to be good news for everyone. |

Usually speed trap is at 200m from the first chicane but during the test I think that it was at the Maserati box...
This morning probably I'm going to the trank and i'll try to enter the paddok... |

Very good photos. I really like those two that were taken just after it exited Lesmo Seconda, I believe. I'm guessing the Maserati can break 300km/h, and maybe 320km/h(200mph), before the Variente Goodyear (first chicane). Excuse me if I use the old corner names, but those are the ones I know.

After reading about the lengths Maserati is going to, to post a 'slow' time on DSC, I would say the MC12 would destroy the FIA GT pole if let off the leash!

Today Maserati did 62 laps only 10 in the morning with Mika Salo, the other in the afternoon with Bertolini.
The best time was set by Bertolini in 1'44"561 |

This car is going to be so bad for sportscar racing. It will dominate like Ferrari in F1 until everybody copies it ($$$$) or until it's made illegal. It's all carbon under its skin, and is much more comparable to a CLK-GTR with 7 years of evolution than to a 911 GT1...
We'll quickly enter "homlogation special land". The Lamborghini will be able to follow up to a certain point with its aerodynamics limiting it a lot, and all of the front engine antiques will have to count on reliability. Jean Todt and Alain Prost are French, so I won't be surprised when revised rules give it a shot at a Le Mans win. I can't believe we're all watching it with a smile, waiting for it to destroy a whole class in GT racing... |
