chassis/engine mount
The chassis of a modern formula 1 car is constructed mainly of CRP with a Aluminium honeycomb sandwich layer. The engine chassis mounting interface is highly critical for the longitutinal torsional stiffness. Therefore how is the engine mounted to the chassis? Surely it is not just a simple matter of threaded fasterners through drilled holes!

Yes - threaded fastenters into titanium inserts and bulkheads bonded into the carbon structure.

Hmm... I'm sure anyone who could come up with a better system would be hailed as a genius...

Right back in the second world war, the designers of the Mosquito faced exactly the same problem. They soon learned that designing in composites (albeit plywood) was reletively easy, as was designing in metal. The real skill came in making them work together in the same structure. The methods they used then are the same as they use now only the materials were not quite so exotic. As Lee Janotta says the preson who does come up with a better system would be "hailed as a genius".

There's a lot of research into bonding metals to glass reinforced composites at the momoent, watch this space and hail the genius!!
