STR for podium
Norbert Haug seems to think that STR are podium material.I think that's a little optimistic. What do you think.Link here.
I feel if that they can qually 11th and 12th,start the race on heavy fuel (using the torque of the V10 to offset the additional weight),they might just be there or thereabouts. |

If they do I'm sure there will be an uproar...I think the interesting point is going to be Monaco/other 'slow' tracks.

You can see Monaco being the place most likely for STR to use their V10 advantage, but remember both drivers are Rookie's, altho Luizzi has had some races under his belt, I'd fully expect the pair of them to end up in the wall! If DC was in a STR car then maybe... but if they do get a few good results then I think the top teams will start to question their legality.

It would be nice, for the guys from Faenza. But, yeah - it would be a hollow podium IMO.

On one of the days at Bahrain, Liuzzi matched the times of Button and beat Barrichello I think. So who knows. Nevermind podium, imagine how embarassing it will be if they beat the Red Bull "A" Team

Yep !....You know the F1 season's about to start when Norbert's whinin' about everybody elses' advantage. One would think he'd be concentrating on keeping the MercLump in one piece. Bets on their attrition rate ?
Maybe it's Montoya's fault ! |

Here's hoping an STR car can finish on the podium... I've got a lazy fiver on Luizzi @ 100/1 for the place...

Well Liuzzi's currently 2nd in the second practise session, just over a tenth off Alonso! So you never know...
EDIT and the split second I posted, he dropped down to 5th |

Ya gotta woner why the FIA stipulates V8's for cost control, when for a $10 air restrictor they achieve the same lap times (with engines whose development costs are already paid for). After rev limiting the V10's should be bulletproof: maybe even the Mercedes could stay together....

I know.
Races seeing the results that come from adherence to the regulations. Disgraceful. |

Exactly, but I guess one of the calls will be "gentlemans agreement" (agreement being for minardi to use restricted V10s, not STR)

That will undoubtedly be one of the main approaches. Indeed, we have seen MF going on about that the other week.
Presumably, though, STR will be able to argue none of the engine manufacturers were beating their door down insisting they take their engines? |

The difficulty with it is, as said, a gentlemans agreement. Was it discussed as the viewpoint of the teams if minardi was bought out? Who knows.
You may be right there Dutton re STR and engine manafacturers - someone said somewhere STR were unable to get a V8 engine in time. Has it been looked at from this perspective - STR are effectively a second team, what about a new manafacturer entering and developing alongside STR...? Not sure it'll happen, but an idea. |

It is certainly going be rather interesting to see how it develops.
You can always trust F1 to make things more complicated than they need be. I am just glad that it is not going to bother me, in that I won't have any problem with where STR finish (or what restrictions are placed on them). |

Let's not forget that Minardi had already signed the contract for the V10s.And we all know how difficult these contracts are to get out of don't we.

I wouldn't say F1 there Dutton, I'd say the FIA. With hindsight (that wonderful thing) maybe they should've written a clause in along the lines of "if the minardi team are bought out and they buyers have better finances..." etc etc, but maybe they think they're sorta protecting themselves with this twenty four hour sanctioning thing.
It won't bother people anyway as such, there's gonna be arguments, but it's a case of sitting back and watching the situation unravel itself... |

Looks like a fuss over nothing now, the cars weren't as competitive as some feared. In any case, one of the manufacturers could have intervened to offer STR an engine deal to prevent this ever happening.

Hmm, well, I am not sure about the competitive thing Boots.
They lined up 15th and 16th. That seems like a bit of a plan to me. |

They didn't put in to bad a showing imo - Speed was lapped, Liuzzi wasn't. Still predict outcry.
