If your staff can go to Paris for the weekend you're paying them too much ;-)

We did? Goodness, I’d forgotten that.....
Local news has just highlighted couple of positive effects on business- Pasta Foods Ltd (Norwich) are having to increase production to meet demand. Appears they are the only UK based dried pasta producer. Unfortunately the durum wheat still has to be imported, but they’ve got 6 months supply already imported! The other company, One Planet Pizza (specialist Vegan products), just few miles from here, is also having to increase production.... So as long as we like pasta and vegan pizza, all will be fine. Presumably there are plenty of livestock that will no longer be exportable. Once they are gone the vegan revolution can progress apace. Maybe we can get Turnips back? All I can see on the shelves around here are Swedes ... |

Today I have e.mailed both the labour Party HQ, and No10 urging a no deal Brexit, and reminding them that we voted to leave, and that it is their duty to deliver on that vote.
Hopefully 17 million other people will do the same. |

I think that Speaker John Bercow may have struck the final blow against himself being elevated to the Lords by his ruling that Mrs May will not be permitted to return to the Commons to get the Brexit bill voted on again unless it is substantially altered. Which it is unlikely to be before the 29th.
The next option might be for the Leader of the Commons to end the parliamentary term early, and then start the next term, which I believe would have commenced after Easter, the very next day. This would, I believe, permit the bill to be presented again. By the way, if nobody had guessed, Bercow is, amongst his other faults, an arch remainer who has tried his best to stop or impede the progress of Brexit since 2016. |

The inconvenient truth was that Bercow was doing his job. He didn't help himself by his timing nor his insouciance about such a bombshell but nobody is suggesting he is legally wrong. Apart from the same leader writers who complained that judges were traitors for doing their job last year .
And better now to get this in the open than to have had the vote , acted on it only for somebody to say the decision was ultra vires and this ineffective |

A long delay and the likely demise of Brexit all together or a 'no deal' exit, much to be desired by most of the public I suspect. Hopefully Nigel Farage will have persuaded at least one country not to agree to an extension of article 50, and we're gone! Dare our politicians go for a long delay and all of that entails. Euro Elections, continued contributions, and no doubt onerous conditions? I fear the answer is yes. |

Seems to me that the concept of being out has been lost, so perhaps this will assist:
You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that’s in the side that’s in the field goes out and when he’s out comes in and the next man goes in until he’s out. When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. When they are all out, the side that’s out comes in and the side that’s been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out. Sometimes there are men still in and not out. There are men called umpires who stay out all the time, and they decide when the men who are in are out. Depending on the weather and the light, the umpires can also send everybody in, no matter whether they’re in or out. When both sides have been in and all the men are out (including those who are not out), then the game is finished. |

Well I think people know what it means, but as this has never been done before, people are a bit confused over what should be happening. Obviously both sides are trying to outdo the other, the ins are trying to make sure the outs don't get there way, the outs are trying to force the ins to back down. I seriously don't know what good an umpire would do. For me this is completely different from what we are used to and this is no ordinary task for anyone

In other similarities ...
It's also a game that can last for a much longer period than most other games and still not produce a winning result. However there are some opportunities, in modern variants used for "league" purposes, to claim greater kudos for points scored. |
